Re: is the new houdini worth the money

i was wrong about depth. stockfish does not like 11b4 even at depth 29. I'm waiting for it to find B4 again Stockfish 2.2.2: +0.32/29 11.Nxd6+ Qxd6 12.Nh4 +0.32/28 11.c3 O-O 12.cxd4 cxd4 13.Nxd6 Qxd6 14.Nh4 Nd7 15.f4 exf4 16.Bxf4 Nce5 17.Qa4 Qb6 18.Qa3 Rfc8 19.Nf3 Nxf3+ 20.Bxf3 Qb5 21.Rac1 Ne5 22.Be...

Re: is the new houdini worth the money

Yeah, you folks are probably right. Stockfish is all a player *needs*. It takes stockfish 2.2.2 till depth of 28 before it finds the exciting 11. B4! in this opening position. kind of a reverse benko gambit. What does houdini 3.0 like at depth of 28. r2qk2r/pp3ppp/2nb1nb1/2p1p3/2NpP1P1/3P1N1P/PPP2PB...

is the new houdini worth the money

I know it is about 90 points stronger than the next engine, and am wondering if this is enough of an improvement to spend 80 dollars. After all the engine-origin discussion, i feel a little jaded about paying money for an engine. I use engines mostly to analyze my games. Do you think it is worth the...

Re: review of the new hiarcs explorer

another nice feature of chess explore.

You can have your ICC games , other other internet games, emailed to you when finished. Then you can simply copy the game from your email and paste it into the move window and chess explorer correctly interprets everything.

Re: review of the new hiarcs explorer

I have been playing a few handicapped games with coach on and I can say that these are two excellent features. On the lower levels, Hiarcs sets up some realistic tactical shots against itself, and the coach will alert you if you miss them. It plays reasonably human like (as well as a computer can do...

review of the new hiarcs explorer

Hello folks, I thought i would offer my first impressions of Hiarcs explorer. I use a Mac so as you might imagine, I have been rather desperate for good chess products. Just to put this in context, I have used Shredder (MAC), Rybka Aquirium (PC), chessbase (PC), sigma (pc?), and arena (PC). My main ...

Re: any early reviews of hiarcs?

It looks like about a 50 point improvment if you compare the rating here

http://www.inwoba.de/

To the earlier hiarcs rating here:

http://www.inwoba.de/

If that holds, it will be a solid step forward

any early reviews of hiarcs?

I'm mostly wondering how well the chess explorer GUI works? Also, anybody taken a look at the GM+ opening books. What do these consist of? Finally, I'm wondering if the strength of the hiarcs engine has been improved substantially? If you can answer any or all of these questions, that would be great!

how far is too far: houdini for sell?

I thought there was considerable evidence that houdini was a close derivative of rybka. Now it is for sell? Whatever your view of rybka (legal or derivitive), there is 0 doubt about Houdini being unoriginal. sigh. If only we could see a return of crafty to number 1, or the program of any honest prog...

Re: Rybka disqualified and banned from World Computer Chess

It's a little complex. I wish some of the money had gone to fabien l
And some to vas. That seems fair. I did buy fruit 2.2 as well but
Regrettably fabien did not make enough to stay in the game
