Hi folks, I have heard that each time you double processing speed of computer, the engine gets 50 pnts elo approximately. can this idea be used to estimate the playing level of an engine handicapped on time? E.g., lets say an engine plays at 3000 level when given 3 hours on computer with hardware X....

a request for help. positional sacrifice test set
Hi folks, It would be nice to put together a positional sacrifice test set. The sacrifice should not lead to an immiediate gain of material (as you see in the benko gambit). It should lead to a positional compensation of some sort. the typical kinds of sacrifices I am thinking of is, for example, wh...

strelka in strategic opening test
the openings are taken from " a strategic opening repertoire " by donaldson. The first results are from the the various closed sicilian reversed variations in the book. Strelka is doing exceptionally well so far. It looks like it belongs in the same group as toga, shredder, glauring and naum. Engine...

Re: USB chess: why can't this technology replace dgt board
I think pressing the square is ok. I mean, for autsensory dgt board, you pay another 950 dollars.
Is there anything like this for fritz9 or chessassistant? Surely people would pay 50 dollars to play chess in three dimensions against the computer, or in longer online games

USB chess: why can't this technology replace dgt board
DGT boards are just too expensive. Why can't something like this replace the dgt board. http://usb.brando.com.hk/prod_detail.php?prod_id=00271 It looks like this USB interface comes with its own crappy chess software. It all costs only about 45 us. Why can't they design just the board part of it to ...

tony, it doesn't seem to do that if you run in fritz gui as engine versus engine tourni, rather than as a general tourni
