Best way to teach humans some opening reprtoire

You have a set of 1000 moves that you need to memorize in the opening in different positions. You want to learn as much as possible in an hour by spaced repetition. I wonder if there is a research what is the best way to do it when the instructions what to do is by a chess program and if it is possi...

Re: Why does TCEC use unbalanced opening?

I'd like to see TCEC return to using balanced openings, with perhaps a 6 moves per side limit. And 96 draws out of 100. You are really an optimist, I would have been 98 draws out of 100, if we are lucky. I do not care about the number of draws and I would like to see 100 games with TCEC hardware an...

Re: Future of computer chess: 2 top engines?

Komodo 11.2 is only 26 Elo points behind version 14, at CCRL 40/15. It was released on July 17, 2017. SF had been the clear number one for over a year, by the time Lc0 matured, and now it is again; this last T60 run has been rather disappointing, not to mention incredibly long. The main reason why ...

Re: Is "Pure" NNUE strong also in losing position?

Default stockfish with nnue and slow hardware(only 3 cores) can find h5 in less than 20 minutes. I guess that it is hybrid evaluation. I guess that with a fast hardware hybrid evaluation find h5 with less than 3 minutes. I do not know how to use NNUE in a way that stockfish find it immediately. FEN:...

Are there engines to solve win material problems

I know that engines solve mate in x plies but I do not know if engines can solve win material problem in x plies. For winning problem there is a problem that is not in mate problems that maybe you win material but later lose it so I think that we need definition of win material in x plies and verfic...

Re: Tactical endgame position- some engines get it, some not.

I do have another fine position to discuss: Easy Mate #6, so it looks like, but both, Stockfish and Ethereal are struggling: rnbq1r1k/pp1npPbp/3p4/4P3/5P2/2p2N2/PPP3P1/R1BQKB1R w KQ - - bm Rxh7 Mate in 6, one would expect that any engine finds it in 13 plies. No, this is not true! Stockfish and Eth...

Re: Tactical positions- some engines get it, some not.

Hello again, I would like to show a "vice versa" example, a tactical blunder two very strong engines are making. It's from the a very rare win of OliThink (5.7.9, black) against Stockfish (11, white) on medium time controls: 4rr1k/p2R2pp/3R2p1/q1p5/P1Q5/1P2B2P/5PP1/4b1K1 w - - 4 32 Stockfish/Ethere...

Re: We have a chess queen, but do you know the queen of chess?

About the mate announcements I doubt if all of them are correct. I found no proof for the mate in 11 claim and I am also practically sure it was impossible without a computer to write a tree that proves the mate. If somebody has not mate claim but proof that there is a forced mate with the relevant ...

Re: Are there chess programs to evaluate chess rating

I don't think that exists. The closest thing I've seen are applications that try to calculate the Elo of a game (only one game and can be pgn format). These programs calculate the error in each move made by the user and an engine that normally has used some version of stockfish. These programs usua...
