Re: Is this positions drawn ??

Hi, the position is a typical fortress (and draw). Topalov and Mamedyrov know this, engines don't. Tobias Indeed, it's a trivial draw. Terry I disagree about trivial. I believe it is a draw but in order to prove that it is a draw you need to tell me a strategy for black were to put the king and roo...

Re: Is this positions drawn ??

Also as a general rule. When engines see a big plus from the start of evalution to the end of evalution but it has not grown, even decresed after some time you can be pretty sure no progress can be made. This is not correct. It is possible that they simply do not see the right plan that is too long ...

White is in zugzwang [D]8/8/8/8/5Kp1/6Pk/8/8 w - - 0 1 Note that the fact that I did not see a possible zugzwang in the first position is no pr...

Re: Perishing Perft !

Quick Perft is also very fast IIRC but on same Mac (compiled on the fly with a simple gcc -O3) it cannot complete without a hash table and takes 25 secs just to reach perft 7. Yes, a hash gives an enormous speed-up in perfting, where, unlike alpha-beta trees, you are sure to walk every existing tra...

Re: Glaurung 2-e/2 - quick test

One note about the name of Glaurung.

It is not 2-e/2 but 2-epsilon/2.

It is important because e has a different mathematical meaning than epsilon and 2-e/2<1

Re: SSDF(Rybka 2.3.1 - Hiarcs 10)A1200, 1½-½, now 21-11

Hiarcs 11.1 has one of the finest commercial opening books out there and I am glad that my hamble opening book for Rybka is holding it's position :D I suspect that many automatic book based on pgn may be enough for rybka to get better place than other programs. Re: released: micro-Max 4.8w

I released a new version of micro-Max, with which I will also participate in ICT7. The Winboard version can be found on my download page , both as a Windows executable and as a C source. The stand-alone version, on which the official character counts will be based, is not yet available (the links a...
