Re: It is official now: 2002 ELO with 1961 characters!

I do not understand it. You say: "x-2&M tests if the square 2 left from the FROM square x is on the board (it is non-zero, i.e. true, if it is off the board)." Why do you need to check the square 2 left from the FROM square. You may want to check a square that is 1 left from the from square to see i...

Re: Hamsters randomizer in action

OK, that isn't disastrously bad. I was thinking more of trees of 100M nodes. After all, 2M nodes probably represents just half a second of search. (I am never sure how people count nodes; Joker does about 1.5Mnps, but it does not count nodes that are satisfied from the hash table. And I do suppose ...

Re: Do you know the Hardware of Fritz and Junior in their ma

I believe that you are wrong and hardware was not the main factor for the fact that Junior won WCCC often. They has better hardware than most amateurs but I believe that had equal hardware to other professional programs. Uri Then how come Junior/Deep Junior is unable to reproduce the same form in t...

Re: Do you know the Hardware of Fritz and Junior in their ma

They have not announced the preparation/details publicly but I would expect the Junior camp to have killer hardware, which I suspect accounts for their WCCC wins more than book/engine strength. Look at the measly Dual Intel Core 2 Duo 5160 that the Fritz camp put together to face Kramnik. Compare t...

Re: It is official now: 2002 ELO with 1961 characters!

The evaluation of uMax 4.8 is calculated in a purely differential way, i.e. it scores the (direct) value of moves, rather than the position. This might make the score of a position slightly path dependent, a problem that is completely ignored. The value of a move is calculated as captured material ...

Re: Test finished

That's the funny thing, none of the opponents lost on time. I do not know what went wrong in the games, but there is definitly something wrong. My hardware is as usual Intel Celeron 2.8GHz and each of the engines were using 32MB or whatever is the closest. Isnt it impossible to use 600 seconds on t...

Re: Test finished

Things are extremely wrong in the games against comet. Movei needs exactly 189 nodes in order to finish depth 63 with draw score but for some reason it used 3 seconds for these 189 nodes based on the pgn Note that analysis of movei should be deterministic assuming it gets the history moves and it sh...

Re: Test finished

Thanks I do not see the problem and I never had problems of losing on time in games with increasement. looking at the first game against quark something seems strange because movei only got depth 8 in move 43 but used 600 seconds for that move. I suspect that there may be a problem with your hardwar...

Re: Test finished

I am surprised that there were losses on time.

The personality numbers should not change the time management rules of movei and I do not think that movei can lose games on time with 1+1 time control(in games with no increasement it certainly can lose games on time).

Did you use 1+1 time control?

Re: Observator bias or...

I disagree with you. It is easy to change program's style by only changing the evaluation without changing the playing strength significantly. I know it from movei and I believe that the same is for rybka and Vas can also release some versions of rybka who play different with no big difference in p...
