Re: Observator bias or...

I seem to have reached a plateau with Hamsters where new features and even bug fixes hardly contribute any elo to it. This would bother me little if not for the fact that each and every test starts by feeding me the illusion of improvement, and only later falls to the same old stats. A 700 games te...

Re: Observator bias or...

Yes, for this reason testing at a fixed number of nodes and recording the ime, rather than fixing the time, seems preferable. But of course you cannot get rid of the randomness induced by SMP that way. For this reason I still want to implement the tree comparison idea I proposed here lately. This w...

Re: OT: Checkers is solved!

Uri, If you were to play the best 8x8 checker players then you would lose 100% of the time. For you, checkers is not solved. Here is a good site for you to download a strong 8x8 checker program. http://www.fierz.ch/download.php You can also get 10 piece EGTB 214 GByte databases for $160.00 USD from...

Re: OT: Checkers is solved!

They need to hire someone that knows PR, I can't find any of this news on the internet. An achievement like this needs to be heard. I agree with you, and it may get a blurb somewhere, but it seems most people don't think this is important news. If chess were solved today, people would say, "That's ...

Re: ChessBase have read the letter!

1 point for Rajlich? He should concentrate on CHESS and not writing open letters The statement above was said to all by ChessBase sys op Holger Lieske while they were trying to concentrate on playing in Freestyle - outrageous. If I understand correctly it was after vasik had 1 out of 2 points in th...

Re: Movei question progress 10 10 10

Tony Thomas wrote:Yes, it is crashing under console mode as well. Here is the changes file.

Code: Select all

loghash 20 loghasheval 20 Progress 10 10 10 0

movei expects p and not P.
It can recognize progress but it does not recognize Progress so it is crashing.

Re: Genius is free chess engine with free source

Try to write an open source operating system and call it "Open Windows" and see what happens. // Christophe Indeed, even Lindows was enough to cause a lawsuit  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_vs._Lindows Yes but I am not sure if even using the name open windows is illegal From that si...

Re: Genius is free chess engine with free source

You must be joking.....it's been around for 17 years, besides, that's not the point. Of course the author knows. Do you think that any of the kids that play with 8 core Rybka over at playchess knows about Genius? I would say that more than 50% of them have never heard of Chess Genius. Whether or no...

Re: Movei question progress 10 10 10

Something is wrong here, Movei started crashing after I added the extra Zero at the end of Progress. 6906*1*Engine 1 dir: C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop\arena_11\Engines\movei00_8_403 6969*1*Engine 1 commandline: "C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop\arena_11\Engines\movei00_8_403\movei...

Re: Genius is free chess engine with free source

This guy deserves to be sued because he is using Genius as the name of a chess program. He is using the same name as Richard Lang's program, which existed long before and is known worldwide I hope Richard Lang has been informed about it. // Christophe Could well be an innocent error Christophe.
