Re: Win XP Prof x64 is 10 % faster than Win 7 Ultimate x64 ?

This agrees with my experience.

I still have three "old" Q6600 machines with XP64 on them and wouldn't conider touching the OS. For chess this is pure joy.

Re: i7 Hyper-threading

FWIW, HT tests using Rybka 4 x64 on i7 970 (6 physical cores): On i7 970 (6 physical cores) I ran 50 tactical positions three separate times (total of 6 tests) with HT on and off. For HT tests I used ProcessLasso to assign CPU afinities for Rybka to 0,2,4,6,8,10 as prescribed by Lucas C. on Rybka's ...

Re: Collateral damage?

an update to HIARCS 13 is coming for christmas according to mark uniacke at the hiarcs forum. komodo has a very good business plan (last i knew) where the single core version is free & the multicore will be for pay, at least at some point. since it's static evaluation is already one of the best i d...

Collateral damage?

I can’t help but notice unusual silence from commercial programmers at this time of year. Looks like Christmas without a new Shredder, Fritz, Sjeng, or HIARCS. Also, would the anticipated release of other programs (Komodo?) be delayed by the controversy around strong free engines? The disincentive t...

Of course I meant the gap between R4 and R3.

Houdini 1.5 3008
Rybka 4 2954
Rybka 3 2901

It appears that the gap over R4 is almost identical to the gap between R3 and R3. This is remarkable.

Re: Question about Fruit

I hope I’m not the slowest guy who visits this place. A long while back I wrote a functional chess engine which could spot a mate in 10 even if it did little else well. However, I never had the time (or patience, or resolve) to study Fruit source code. My request: could someone explain in broad str...

Thanks for the response.
MP version based on 30+ELO improvement to v.1.2 could shake up current rating lists. Can't wait to see it!

Re: TEST position TCEC5- Houdini 1.03a-DRybka4 1-0

It's apparent to me that if Mr. Rajlich were to bring a lawsuit against the clones, he would need to ...identify who he was suing. Wow, is this controversy *ever* going to end? Is it not clear that Rybka 1 was heavily dependent on the Fruit source code? And that Houdini is partially based on the Ip...
