Re: LCZero is using my cores, not my GPU.

I am getting a new computer around May 3 (a Dell Alien Area 51) and I would like to participate in this project. Based on this configuration, would it be best for me to download the GPU file or the CPU file? Intel® Core™ i9 7980XE NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1080 with 8GB GDDR5X 32GB Dual Channel HyperX™ ...

Re: Rook endgame with latest stockfish 12.04.18

Interesting that the latest AsmFish (based on SF from February) does not exhibit this problem: New game 5k2/5P1R/8/8/1K6/1P6/2r4p/8 w - - 0 1 Analysis by asmFishW_2018-04-08_bmi2: 1.Ka3 Ke7 2.b4 Rf2 3.Ka4 Ra2+ 4.Kb5 Rb2 5.Ka5 Ra2+ 6.Kb6 Rc2 7.b5 Kf8 8.Ka5 Ra2+ 9.Kb4 Rb2+ 10.Kc4 Rf2 11.b6 +/- (0.92) ...

Re: Houdini 6 endgame peculiarity?

Quite the opposite here. As the position simplifies, NPs sky-rocket for H6, with tablebase hits going up rapidly too. In this position tablebases (even if only 5-men) are used extensively (into hunderds of thousands within seconds). Something is not right in the setup you are using, I'm afraid. Peter

Re: So many nice releases these days

Stockfish 9, Cfish 9, Baron 3.42, Smarthink, Skipper no progress, and many interesting others. A pity the greatly interesting LCZero is still a private experiment for few elected people...[/quote In general, I feel fortunate to live in these times. We can watch TCEC around the clock, download free ...

Re: Intel CPU performance-loss by security-patch?!?

The following link give a very readable explanation of the bugs and how the exploits work https://blog.cloudflare.com/meltdown-spectre-non-technical/ Thanks for the link. I have read and still have the same fundamental question about the nature of the attack, and therefore, about the ways to preven...

Re: Intel CPU performance-loss by security-patch?!?

I just installed Windows update KB4056892 which contains a fix for the 'Meltdown vulnerability', the good news is that I don't see any difference in raw calculation speed with my engine at all. My engine runs multithreaded in a single process on a i7-6950X, it is possible that IO is affected and th...

Re: Fizbo 2 has been released

Fizbo 2 has been released, and can be downloaded from https://sites.google.com/site/fizbochessengine/ Here are release notes: 1. minor bug fixes: fixed a bug that occasionally crashed the engine, mostly running on multiple CPU cores. That is the bug that crashed Fizbo twice in TCEC10 . 2. minor cha...

Re: CCRL 40/40, 40/4 and FRC lists updated (30th December 20

Thank you Graham. Quick question: is there a reason why the 40/40 pure list still has Texel 1.06, while the newer has earned a higher rating (and has played more games)? Happy New Year! PK With games played against common opponents Texel 1.06 is stronger than 1.07. That is the way the pure list wor...
