Re: is the new houdini worth the money
If using engine to review one's over the board or human vs human games then Houdini is overkill and you get just as much advice from the free versions of Critter or StockFish. Most of the analysis of these top engines is so hard to really grasp, much like viewing EGTB of various 5 or 6 men. You get ...

Re: My favorite chess apps for android
I read on Houdini facebook page that Robert intends to release Houdini on Android by the end of the year

Re: Rybka 4.1 is still unbeatable in some positions
Gosh, from the title of the tread I thought I was going to see some special ability of Rybka. All I see is that Rybka needs this huge material advantage to know how to win a game.

Re: Rxd7! Looks like a nice positional sac.
This is a tough position to beat for black. Where's the -2.00 for black at 30ply after Rxd7. Thank you Ted Summers for posting it. I've enjoyed it. Yes, it's an interesting position and sacrifice. Houdini 3 evaluates it as +0.8 for Black. It's hard for Black to make any progress, so maybe White can...

new iPad 4 which has the dual core A6 chip. Any expectation for the IPhone 5? 8-) I don't know why the iPad 4 is faster, as they both contain the same chip as far as I know. But previous versions of iPad and the same iPhone with identical processor have had iPad a little bit faster. Maybe Apple und...

Re: What is stronger than Houdini 3 for what?
You claim that Houdini is much better in tactics, have you heard the saying that chess is 99% tactics. Longer time controls lead to more draws which is why you will see a contraction in the rating delta. Besides it is an illusion that chess contains two types of style that are tactics and strategy.

Re: Nice Houdini 3 64-bit 4CPU move
I can imagine that for a bit of humour that Houdini played Rxh4 and offered a draw to Hiarcs as it wanted to finish the game early for an important date. Hiarcs just stares at Houdini and says draw offer declined (after all I am the World Computer Chess Champion) and you Houdini are just a poor imit...

Re: 10 years of Computer Chess
Impressive results, but you mentioned that in many games Houdini got advantage out of the opening. Was Houdini using a different more modern book and Shredder was left with it's own book from 2003 ? Or were they both using the same book? Same book, Perfect2012 tournament, a specialized short book f...
