Re: What's up with this endgame?

There's nothing wrong with 29...b5, and it's the only way to tempt white into a line that doesn't exchange the rooks with Rh1, because after Rh1 it's just a dead draw. Here, black fights on. Black messes up later. Most engines were very useless for these positions (you know that when you have to pl...

Chess960 Generator and Lookup Tool

I am going public and open source on my little Chess960 generator and Lookup tool. I spent my life working as a CPA , not as a programmer or coder, so if anyone has any ideas for improvements , it will be much appreciated ( actual code suggestions would be great! ) . It's pretty basic, some might ca...

Re: future of top engines:how much more elo?

A random engine will not be zero Elo. An engine that chooses the worst possible move after a careful search might be able to hit zero. The referenced video already explores that, and you're right, if you make Stockfish sort the moves from best to worse, and make the worst one every time, it'll achi...

Re: What's up with this endgame?

My impressions and with using some backward analysis, you had totally equalize with move 28. Bd6 - always a good time to offer draw here ;>) Thanks Mike, I had a score that was positive for black, higher than what white gets on the opening position (maybe it was wrong, but that's what I thought.) I...

Re: Trying to find a weird mate in 1...

Schooner solves this in 1 ply, 0.68 seconds and 1.7 million nodes. Still, there is a point to be made that millions of nodes seems large for a mate in 1, so there is a quiescence explosion. Might be worth tracing to look at the intricacies of the position. current -dev-SF - default settings - singl...

Re: What's up with this endgame?

I just lost my first ICCF game since 2015, and I still don't know what happened. At the end of 2017 I reached this endgame: 8/3b2k1/1p3pp1/3p1p2/3P1P2/P3P3/5KP1/5B2 b - - I analyzed it thoroughly and concluded it was an easy draw, as I couldn't find any progress for white. There were positions wher...

Re: future of top engines:how much more elo?

My own games against the random mover. It seems that I can usually beat it even with one pawn. I suspect that chess engines that do not play the opponent may perform worse than me. my score against it is 4.5-0.5 so far when I play with one pawn against all the pieces and I gave different handicap i...

Re: MacOS for RuyDOS, Sapeli, Scorpio, Topple Chess

As to Scorpio NN, TensorRT is not available for mac so i guess that is not going to happen any time soon. However, tensorflow is available for mac so that could work to run it both on cpu and gpu -- although the gpu could be 2-3x slower. Scorpio is ofcourse available on mac if it is not using NN. D...

Re: future of top engines:how much more elo?

If a random moving engine played an infinite number of games against SF, some of the games would be wins for the random engine. Obviously, a very tiny percentage. But, just by chance, a win could happen early in the chain. A random engine will not be zero Elo. An engine that chooses the worst possi...
