Re: Help with Komodo 1.0 personalities.

Dear Carl, I too hope that programmers read a bit more this subforum of Talkchess, because there's been years users have been begging for features . I remember Fernando asking for a GUI, there have been threats about learning functions, etc. But, unfortunately, the main objective remains Elo. Only a...

Re: Attacker vs Positional Challenge Match

You could add somewhere Gandalf 7b. While it plays a kind of balanced chess, it's tactically excellent, and with the appropriate book it can do a lot of damage (it usually beats Zarkov quite handily in sharp openings). Books in this match could be very important. On Ed's site, you could find some ol...

Re: Most Positional/Strategic Chess Engines

Jose? What was Jose good for? I downloaded all the Database GUIs I could find and Jose was much inferior to Scid... Scid is open source, I wonder if one could Fork Scid into an engine playing version... Jose is open source, and I don't think a tons of options is always useful. Adding well thought o...

Re: Most Positional/Strategic Chess Engines

Dear Brendan, Written words can be very treacherous, allowing lots of misunderstandings. I often fear limiting depth with the current engines will indirectly affect playing style in some way, but maybe it won't. I just meant that the engines on the top of the rating lists are the one with the fastes...

Re: Most Positional/Strategic Chess Engines

Dear Brendan, somehow, I don't think you have chosen the optimal type of positions to test these engines: why not try the QID, or the QG? I tested most of the engines I wrote about at fixed depth (although "fixed depth" doesn't always means the same, but I tried atdifferent depths), with Karpov's re...

Re: Most Positional/Strategic Chess Engines

Dear Brendan, I`ve seen you already tested Zarkov 6.55: with a king safety of 120 it has the best positional eval I've seen in the openings. Extremely human-like, especially since it doesn't reach extreme depths (in OTP games, ideal for a challenge). Doesn't have a "sense of danger" and can miss tac...

Wasp and The Baron -- a plea

While everybody is still debating about A0, I decided to remain in my world where I am interested just by a few engines with a positional style of play, and I have -- I can't really say a request, for who am I to request anything -- but rather a polite plea: to John Stanback: Despite its Elo progres...

Re: Wasp 2.60 by John Stanback released!

I can say that under wine, Wasp 32 shows the current move in all in the interfaces I use, although in my old ShredderGUI, when multiPV is on, yes, there is no current move. Just checked in a really old CB GUI -- no current move when multiPV is on. Anyway, Wasp still plays very human-like, and its li...
