Re: How to improve chess play?

Solving tactics problems on a server is not very useful. Get a book which is systematized and explains patterns etc. Just trying to solve something, failing and seeing the solution is not very helpful (depends on the person, but usually the book is much better). Do not invest too much time into open...

Re: New Fritz GUI 12 Update (Oct 12, 2010)

this is retarded, if I choose to buy something (anything) which is not of uttermost necessity, means I am not a good person because I could skip it and donate the money to some more noble cause? Anyone you guys know lives like that?

ELO rating calculator (not chess!)

There is a game I want to create a tournament director for. Does anyone know a software which would produce ELO ratings like BayesElo? The reason I'm reluctant to use BayesELO is: 1. BayesELO usues pgn files 2. BayesELO distinguishes between black/white which is not present in the game I am interest...

Re: Rybka 4, free download?

Sounds like a very "Unhappy" Rybka 4 customer to me. He paid way more than most that's for sure! :!:    I did not get the impression that Topalov's openings let him down. In fact, pretty much all the games except the first (which was a victory for Topalov's preparation) came down to ...

Yes, He's really very brilliant. :)

I found some of his annotation of GM games really entertaining.
+1. And he knows how to write, at that age!

Re: This is why I love Junior

I am a big Junior fan but have an impression that Fire just badly misplayed the game, abandoning several fortress-like setups, maybe because it was actually better and tried to make progress. It overstepped at some point but this is not what a typical Junior victory looks like.

Re: Topalov vs Anand Game 12

I don't know how do you measure how "smart" a person is. I know many chess-players, professional and not, and some scientists too. Under any reasonable measure of smartness I'd take scientists/academics over chess-players. Many GMs do not have a proper higher education. Some top GMs are very smart.
