Re: Topalov vs Anand Game 12
Interesting match. Anand did not play well (judging from his blunders and missed opportunities) but Topalov played worse. Feel bad for Topalov's last game performance as a player of his caliber should be able to passively defend such positions to a draw (though this is a clear Topalov weakness). Wa...

[d]1R6/p5k1/5pP1/5P1K/8/1p3r2/8/8 w - - 0 66 Draw Agreed....The 12th game will be played very carefully and the tiebreaks are knocking on the door....I fear the worst for Anand,Topalov is a tiebreaker,a classic one,it will be difficult to outplay him.... Dr.D Anand is like 100-150 ELO stringer than...

Re: Would you play this variation as black?
I agree that Black does not have any winning chances. I guess many setups like Berlin, and even some Petroffs etc are like that: hard, technical defense and you make a draw. The upside is that computer prep etc. is completely useless in those positions. On amateur level I dont think its that bad bec...

His light bishop is misplaced, the pawn on a5 fixes the queenside making b7 very weak. If white attacks it it falls. In this variati...

Linux sucks. ... I am a ... noob . You agree that someone may detect a corellation between these two sentences, don't you? ;-) No, I don't. Sound and screen resolution are most basic things and should work regardless of whether the user is advanced or not. No one is disputing that. But it is true t...

Re: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
Linux sucks. I use Ubuntu, and it's one of the better and most praised ones, but my God it sucks. Every time a new distribution comes, and you are suggested to upgrade, it is a nightmare. People complain about Windows update, but this...this is something different. I upgraded from Jaunty Jackalope t...

Re: YAAFJ: Yet Another April Fools Joke
So, Chessbase is making multiple April Fools joke posts to confuse us into thinking that only one of them qualify? Note that "LHC goes online - GM's worried" is an obvious April fools. http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail.asp?newsid=6226 A friend working on one of LHC projects told me that they had ...

Re: can chess program see win for white after e4 h6 d4 a5?
Perhaps you are unfamiliar with the MC feature of Rybka 3; there should be no duplicates, and the variety should be quite good. If you are simply running games relying on the nondeterministic nature of MP to get some variety, your sample will be vastly less varied than mine. Most likely, you are ge...

Re: What are the most important 6 man TBs to have
Roughly 50% of chess endgames are rook endgames.
Computers are notoriously bad at those, so getting them is a no-brainer.
