Re: Chess Tools

Hi Ferdinand, I wish me a tool I can split a *.pgn database with quantity "pieces on board". Step 1: Tool created 6 databases 2-6 pieces on board 7-12 13-18 19-24 25-32 . . . Hi Frank, I looked at this idea and realized it was very easy for me to do something along this path by just adding a few li...

I expect that the new version will flex its muscles in the TCEC superfinal.
I think the catalyst for this is the TCEC tournament. It brings out the faults, so authors have something to go after.

How can I download the FIDE database of player names?

Re: [SCID Database] Updated FIDE spelling files - February 2

It's not much of a problem now, because I wrote a tool that inserts a period after an initial. It is called "tagFix" and is in "40H-PGN" tools. But my beef with SCID is that ALL periods are removed after initials when I use "Spell Checking of Players". So if I have "Fischer, R.", the spell check cor...

Re: [SCID Database] Updated FIDE spelling files - February 2

The SCID spelling files are useful if you like to have the full names in your database (e.g. "Carlsen, Magnus" instead of "Carlsen, M") and for general database maintenance. After importing games from a pgn-source (like TWIC) you can automatically rename the player names (only works flawlessly for ...

Re: scid - pgn database size limitation?

A roundabout way to process extremely large pgn files (over 16M games for example) is to split the file into files of an "equal" number of games, and then process each of the smaller new files. "gameSplit" from 40H-PGN tools: "gameSplit" separates the input "pgn" file into a user-specified number (2...

Re: Automated tool to append "bm" PV to EPD file.

If you can create a file of pv values, then the tool epdInsert (from 40H-EPD tools) can append a pv opcode to the end of each line of an end file. The process is explained further with the tool bmOpcode. It extracts the pv from Arena analysis log after doing an engine analysis using Arena and an eng...
