Re: Change the unfair ruler

... and a promoted Rook in the e-file should be allowed to castle with its King as long as there are no enemy attacks against the King who moves 2 squares, and the King has not previously moved, and of course, no other pieces in the e-file.

Re: TCEC 9 super final: the opening selection

Just wondering if any of the openings have favored Black, even just slightly? In other words, any openings where White squandered its advantage to Black, not just to equality, but to a slight disadvantage?

Re: The TCEC...

I wonder if tcec games are any more helpful to the developers, with regard to discovering weaknesses of their engines, than games in other competitions. In tcec, if an engine makes a weak move, it cannot be blamed on lack of enough time.

Re: fortress_draw_rule

I think this discussion transcends the actual tcec match between SF8 and H5. It gets to the heart of a major difference between human and computer chess, namely that chess engines, especially with tbs, can see tactical consequences many, many more moves ahead. Hence, should rules be adjusted? Here i...

Re: fortress_draw_rule

It is hard to believe that the 5-man gaviota tbs saw something that the 6-man syzygy tbs could not see. So it appears the gaviota tbs were not constrained by the 50-move rule while the syzygy 6-man tbs were. So since the gui's tbs (gaviota-5man) are not constrained by the 50-move rule, the engine tb...

Re: fortress_draw_rule

The fundamental unresolved issue has been around a long time, and it will be around long after tcec. What it comes down to is why should computer engines that see a mate in 51+ moves be penalized and forced to accept a draw. The 50 move rule was established solely for humans and it was established l...

Re: Cursed win at TCEC

I consider the rule "defective" in the sense that it deviated from its purpose. Its purpose was to determine the natural outcome without intervention, and impose that outcome to save time. Instead of determining the natural outcome that the engines would eventually determine on their own, it imposed...

Re: Cursed win at TCEC

Here are the rules about adjudicating wins: It will adjudicate as won for one side if both playing engines have an eval of at least 6.50 pawns (or -6.50 in case of a black win) for 4 consecutive moves, or 8 plies - this rule is in effect as soon as the game starts. In the website this rule i...
