Re: New Opening ECO statistics on CCRL site
I think everyone should take ANY "ECO" statistics with skepticism. Nothing against CCRL and I admire their work, but "ECO" stats are inherently ambiguous. There are two major points of view: Take the literal moves as they occur and form the ECO value OR Wait to see how the game transforms and then t...

Does ProDeo choose a loss over a draw?
Hi Ed, Would you take a look at this game by ProDeo 1.5? It seems to me that PD, with less material, has an easy 50 move draw about to occur. But instead, on move 117, PD decides to avoid the 50 move draw and quickly loses. -Norm [Event "G-1"] [Site "?"] [Date "2007.06.11"] [Round "1.15"] [White "Pr...

Re: Twisted Logic 20070602 released!!!
Hi Edsel, Congratulations on all accounts. I noticed that there is a time management situation with TL. I'm using TL in a 2'+1" scenario so what I have to say might or might not apply to other scenarios. In this situation, TL uses a predetermined amount of time to analyze each move. The amount of ti...

Re: Scid 3.6.14 released
A few days ago I asked about elo scores that have an asterisk. I now have found out where the asterisks comes from. If a player has an elo tag in some games, but is missing an elo tag in others, SCID associates the elo score (which one?) to the games without an elo score and denotes them with aster...

Re: Elostat
Also adjust the engine names. For example: "Shredder 10.0 64-bit" and "Shredder 10.0 x64" are considered by elostat to be 2 completely different engines. On a side note, let me mention that as a user of both CCRL and CEGT, I have noticed that the 2 services often use different names for the same eng...

Re: Scid 3.6.14 released
Can you precise what's going wrong ? It is the elo values with the asterisk "*" that cannot be exported to a pgn file. These elo values seem to be built-in. I took a pgn file, removed its elo values, converted to scid format, and found that some of the games had elo values with asterisks. Then when...

Re: Scid 3.6.14 released
Thanks Pascal.
Would it be possible to extend the ELO insertion process so that after an ELO insertion, an ELO tag is produced in pgn output? Right now the inserted ELO value stays internal to SCID, and disappears when the games in the database are output as a pgn file.

Re: Scid 3.6.13 released
I made an option available that will make Scid more compliant to standards. I prefer to keep the old way around in case of any bad side effect. But I have a question : 1. e4 is the PGN standard, but after a variation, with black to move, what should be displayed : 2... e5 or 2. ... e5 ? 2. ... e5 T...

New release of 40H (2007.04.26)
There is a new release available for the "40H" collection of PGN utility tools. A new tool, "gameNum" has been added. It puts a game number comment before each game in a pgn file. Sample: {Game 501} For a brief description of all 20 programs, here is a short "overview" file: overview.txt To download...
