Re: Test position Nxc5
Amateur gets it in 8 sec, but it's not really enthusiastic about it: 17 124 685 7837144 Nd6 Rc6 Rd2 Rd7 Nb5 Rxd2 Rxd2 Kg8 Nd6 Rc7 Ke4 Kf8 Rd1 Kg8 Bf2 Kf8 17 157 836 9473555 Nxc5 Rxc5 Rd8 Kg7 Rb8 Nd7 Re8 Rc7 Bxa7 Rxa7 Rxe7 Nxe5 Ke4 Rxe7 Kxe5 Kf8 Rd8 Kg7 c5 18 154 1348 15330523 Nxc5 Rxc5 Rd8 Kg7 Rb8 N...

Re: Test position for amateur engines!
Amateur likewise avoids Qxf7, then sees Rf5 in about 5 sec: 11 8 139 1621561 Rxa4 Qd5 Qf6 12 10 385 4563078 Rxa4 Qf3 12 522 459 5391964 Rf5 Qa7 Re5 Rd1 13 702 776 8920212 Rf5 Qxf5 Bxf5 g4 Bxg4 a5 Qa2 Re7 Bf3 Re3 14 718 889 10191188 Rf5 Qxf5 Bxf5 g4 Bxg4 h4 15 721 1081 12509088 Rf5 Qxf5 Bxf5 g4 Bxg4 ...

Re: questions on using cutechess
I thought I'd try it out, as there seems so much interest. Some questions: The winboard protocol, as I read it, says that the Ping command will not be sent unless the engine specifically asks for it with the feature command. I've never used Ping, yet cutechess sends it and expects me to respond. Ho...

Re: Quiet - Hyatt the few loud positions
Given this file from Dr. Hyatt's site: ftp://ftp.cis.uab.edu/pub/hyatt/tests/openings.epd Most of the positions are fairly neutral. Those that are polar (centipawn evaluation of 3/4 of a pawn or more) are collected and shown below: How long does it take your engine to find a low score for this posi...

Re: different kinds of testing
I'm wondering whether it's better to test from a set of opening positions, flipping the colors, or rather from game start using books. I guess you'd get more volatility using books, so you'd need more games. But if you eliminate the books, then you're not testing from the positions your program wou...

Re: first time...
Hi Will, are we likely to see another public release of Amateur sometime, or is it going to remain private from now on? Cheers, Graham. Funny you should ask. I haven't looked at the code in years, but I have some free time now and it needs updating. I'll probably send Leo a new one for his tourname...
