Re: Surprise...

You can ignore the evaluations, since they are obfuscated in Houdini. Sven Schüle wrote:Have you been able to determine how much of that code has been originally written by himself? Have you compared Houdini 1.0 to other programs, like Robbolito or Rybka?

Sven
Of course, the code of Houdini is based on code of Robbolito or Ivanhoe. But I have not counted the number of matching lines.

Re: SSDF and Houdini?

I have carefully examined the code and algorithms of Houdini 1.5a and got a lot of pleasure. Robert is a very good programmer, he did a good job. I can say: thank you very much, Robert!

Re: Houdini, Fire, IvanHoe, (and Rybka?) are 'clones'...?

Rybka = Crafty + Fruit + a lot of new ideas.
Ippolit = Fruit + Rybka + a lot of new ideas.
Stockfish = Glaurung + Ippolit + a lot of new ideas.
Houdini = Ippolit + Stockfish + a lot of new ideas.

For me, in these equations new ideas are more important than the origin.

Re: is hiarcs a slow searcher

10-12 years ago I decompiled the old versions of Fritz and Hiarcs. Fritz was the most optimized for speed, had a very simple evaluation function and a very high speed of search. Evaluation function of Hiarcs was more complicated, and the speed of about 3 times lower.

Re: How long would it take to disassemble Rybka 4?

Rybka 4 contains approximately 100,000 lines of ASM-code (non-library functions). I would need the following times: 1. About 1 month to get a compiled project in assembler. 2. Another month to convert from assembler to pseudo-C. 3. 2-3 months to obtain pure C code. 4. Another month on the final fine...

Re: Longer Article

I had a discussion with Vasik in Mexico about his tuning. His procedure was to play games at 3-4 ply which would finish in 10 seconds or so. At that speed the context switching and parsing of UCI would be much to slow, so he had written a special tester to link two versions of Rybka. To accurately ...

Best,
Gerold.
Strelka R3E come from Strelka 2.0B + Rybka 3 evaluation function.
"R3E" means: "Rybka 3 Evaluation".

Re: Any summary of Fabien's open letter discussion?

I won't read 700+ messages, but I have understand Rybka is derivate of Fruit. But what has this to do with Houdini? Any possibility to 1-3 sentence abstract, please! Jouni Summary: Strelka is both a clone of Fruit and Rybka. Naturally, Vas saw in it a clone of Rybka (with some changes), and Fabien ...

Juri, could you make Fruit a Cluster Rybka?
I do not understand the question about the cluster. What do you mean?
