Re: How to play Philidor Defense
Philidor is difficult to play with black. Always capture on d4 to get the knight on d4 otherwise you may easily lose in a few moves for Bf7, Ng5, Nd5 are always threatening. This may be interesting for black as an alternative to 2 .. Nc6. Haven't tried it yet. [d] rnbqkbnr/ppp2p1p/3p2p1/8/3NP3/8/PP...

Re: LMR problems
I don't understand that all Pawn pushes are promising. A Pawn might be a passer, and pushing it many times in a row might lead to promotion. If you would reduce each of these pushes, you would have to search very deep before you would discover that. I guess normally you would only do that for passe...

Re: LMR problems
Hi erveryone. LMR is a nice idea and it does give an overall ELO increase. Usually it works ok in my checkers engine. But I had noticed my LMR implementation doesn't like loosing positions, when the score starts to go down badly. When a certain line is loosing badly, I've seen the following: After ...

Assert is usefull, but not worth the hype. They are f.i. not so helpfull for single person projects.Henk wrote:Asserts only make your code more complicated. Bugs are usually in cases you did not know about. So how can you test conditions you don't know about.
