IMHO the ONLY reason for an SMP search is to improve Elo. What other point is there? The only practical way to do this is to search deeper.

Re: At a glance you may think this is a draw. White wins!

Duncan, Can you send me the names of the files you saw in the Finalgensp folder and the content of the FEN.txt file? at my address referenced in http://www.mtu-media.com/finalgen/contact_ing.php I'll try to investigate what happened. Pedro Pérez thanks for your email response. as I feel that an ema...

Re: At a glance you may think this is a draw. White wins!

when I click on set value after copying/pasting a fen I get the message 'the position already exists in the database and cannot be overwritten' duncan First you have to delete the previously generated tablebase in order to set some positions again from that tablebase. tried as you suggested. I saw ...

Re: At a glance you may think this is a draw. White wins!

After you click the "Set value" button, you can set another position, etc. If you want to use a file, that should be a .txt file with FENs. The values are set by using the letters W, D, or L (Win, Draw, Lost) before every FEN string followed by '|'. E.g.: W|8/8/8/PkP5/1P4p1/5pKp/8/8 b - - 0 1 L|8/8...

Re: At a glance you may think this is a draw. White wins!

tried your position, for some reason did not get your results. did you do no 50 rules move ? Yes, I did used "No 50 moves rule (Depth To Promotion)". Now I managed to get more precise results using two seeded positions: [D]8/8/8/PkP5/1P4p1/5pKp/8/8 b - - 0 1 WHITE WINS [D]8/8/PkP5/1P4p1/5pKp/8/8/8 ...

Re: At a glance you may think this is a draw. White wins!

is this the critical position you put in? [D]2Q5/8/8/P7/1P4p1/3k4/7K/5n2 w duncan No, I set this position: [D]8/8/8/PkP5/1P4p1/5pKp/8/8 b - - 0 1 But of course one should get the same result by setting that Q/N position to WHITE WINS. tried your position, for some reason did not get your results. d...

Re: At a glance you may think this is a draw. White wins!

If one sets the critical position's value to DRAW, FinalGen reports a win for 1.Ke2 and 1.Ke1. Sorry, I made a mistake in my previous post. You should read: If one sets the critical position's value to WHITE WINS, FinalGen reports a win for 1.Ke2 and 1.Ke1. is this the critical position you put in?...

Re: At a glance you may think this is a draw. White wins!

A beautiful position that illustrates the advantage that a single tempo can give. Then zugzwang and black is lost. The key to this position is looking at it yourself , before using an engine. It's very instructive! Some very strong engine(s) also struggle here. Komodo CCT after 5 min cannot see the...

Re: At a glance you may think this is a draw. White wins!

Critter needed about 8 minutes to find the winning move. I let the analysis run overnight: [D]4k3/5ppp/8/8/8/8/PPP5/3K4 w - - 0 1 Critter 1.6a x64, 4-Gb hash: 32/61 06:12 2 957 072 190 7 947 965 0,00 a4 h5 a5 Kd7 a6 Kc7 b4 h4 Ke1 Kb6 b5 g5 Kf2 g4 Kg2 g3 Kf3 Ka7 Kg2 Kb6 32/61+ 07:38 3 656 933 988 7 ...

Re: Human killer engine - a cafè-monster

Has anyone made a "Human killer engine"? I mean an engine that not always plays the best move because it will: 1) Have open and complicated positions 2) go for positions where it can perform a surprising combination 3) set a trap for the opponent. 4) more things like that . I remember playing an en...
