Re: Question to Larry Kaufman about Rybka

"I tested komdo against robbolito at fixed depth of 1 ply and 2 plies and it seems that robbolito is clearly stronger at small fixed depth. I think that you should ask the question why komodo is weaker. I think that komodo tends to prune too much. " Robbo crushes Komodo by nearly 200 Elo at 1 or 2 ...

Re: The Chemical Brother

Thanks Ferdinand, and sorry for the delay, I was on holidays the last days. I was looking for positions where Deuterium showed differences in evaluation that turned to be wrong. I don't know if this could be useful and/or interesting to anyone, what do you think? (First move is always Deuterium tur...

Re: The problem with LMR in suprtactical positions.

In my case I prefer to measure this by search time, not by depth. Can you post your other LMR conditions? Of course you are right, as OliThink with LMR finds the mate quite quickly at SD=11. Here are my LMR conditions, where d = depth, and i = nr. of move. if (nch) ext++; // Check Extension...

Re: The problem with LMR in suprtactical positions.

Hi, here is a fine position that has a mate in 7 with Qxd5: [d]r2qb1nr/pp1n3p/4k1p1/1P1pPpP1/1B3P1P/2R5/3Q4/R3KB2 w - - 0 3 But there is a problem, that in the mate line: d2d5 e6d5 a1d1 d5e4 c3c4 e4f3 d1d3 f3g4 f1e2 g4h4 c4c3 d7e5 d3h3 We have the quiet move R4c3, which isn't nor a capture, neither...

Re: SEE Improvement Idea

In an attempt to improve the SEE used in programs for pruning moves or selecting move order, how about applying material imbalance rules in the SEE? An example. A program might calculate that PxP PxP is an "even" exchange, but if the first side was left with merely a lone Bishop, it could be much w...

Re: Did people try replacing LMR by pruning

Every time that LMR conditions happen you do not change the depth but increase pruning variable by 1 when the pruning variable is simply the number of times when LMR conditions happened during the path(of course you need to reduce it when you take back the last move). Can you simplify or explain fu...

Re: YBWC details

I've gutted the horrible PVSplit implementation I had in LittleThought and want to put YBWC in its place. However, I'm having problems trying to find a decent description of the algorithm. I've founds bits and pieces but not really enough for me to get my head around all the little intricacies I ru...

Re: The Chemical Brother

Interesting that Deuterium is holding its own against some tough opponents. Congrats to Ferdinand for this improved version. Saludos, Carlos I was also surprised about how much stronger Deuterium is. It is currently leading Alfil 8.1.1 in a short match at CCRL 40/40 time controls! :o Well done to F...
