Re: Stockfish with and without contempt

based on what I see, I no reason not to use SF contempt scoring in analysis, but I understand people have their own reasons and that's fine, it is certainly not my way or the highway ;>) - also , note - that SF contempt code is symmetrical ... Are you sure, Mike? To me it looks like Contempt breaks...

Re: Fritz 17

No, it is just data. It is literally just a monster text file with a string of 27.9 million numbers each separated by a space. You cannot run it, just consult it. This is highly debatable. A compiled program is also just data which is interpreted by another program (the CPU hardware, developed itse...

Re: Stockfish with and without contempt

That is my opinion - and the way contempt is implemented in SF - it is color neutral , meaning the evaluations are totally symmetrical - so there is no reason to have the off black white and on settings. They are there because it was requested by the user community - but by and large most of the de...

Re: Stockfish with and without contempt

If you think of the static eval as an indication of the expected score against an equal opponent then it is logical to add some adjustment if the opponent is not of the same strength. This adjustment should only be made for non-hard scores (e.g. not for DRAWSCORE). This is the philosophy behind SF's...

Re: deep history pruning

If you try the history scores indexed by ply, let me know how this worked out for you Vivien, this has been on my "Try THIS" list for along time now and I haven't come around to do it... But hearing what bob has said maybe it would be more sensible to have history scores indexed by subtree, but thi...

Re: Understanding and Pushing the Limits of the Elo Rating Algorithm

Let me try again: Paired comparison with ties You should probably contact them so that they can at least refer to your work. But I think there is essentially nothing in the paper. As you say k-elo seems to Davidson. The only thing that could be considered slightly original is that they identify the...

Re: New Tool for Tuning with Skopt

Jorg, have you tried one of the other base estimators supported by skopt/tune? They might be faster. You can "RF", "ET" or "GBRT". I'll think of other ways to speed up for many games. Maybe something like running more than 2 games for every choice of parameters. But even inverting a 2000x2000 matri...
