So far all I have is a material searcher. From the initial position it returns a score of either 100 or -100 depending upon the modification or search depth. Someone builds some sort of super train being able to cover L.A to NYC in 10 hours. Everyone is cheering.

As it turns out, it reaches Philadelphia in 5 hours and stands still there for 4½ hours before finishing the journey. Now everyone is booing.

I thought perhaps a doubling of speed/time would be worth more for Alpha0 as it would suffer less from diminishing returns than a traditional engine. But maybe that's not the case.

when leela saturates should it be close to elo of AphaZero? How strong would Alpha Zero be on consumer hardware, though? TPU is roughly equivalent to 10 1080Ti. A doubling of speed is worth roughly 50 Elo, so in this case slightly more than that. More in fast games, less in longer games.
