Re: CPU and Elo

A doubling of speed is worth roughly 50 Elo, so in this case slightly more than that. More in fast games, less in longer games.

A pool of them? What possible difference could there be between one random mover and another?

Re: Slipper next generation: an update

The first 6½ moves are just in the order in which they are generated (assuming you're scanning the board A1, B1...H8, captures first).

But then there's the surprising 7...d6 and all bets are off.

That is ply 59
Nitpick: The 59th halfmove is actually 30. a4

Re: Skipper zero : no progress

Result after two hours training on this simple endgame. Bit disappointing. [pgn] [FEN "3qk3/8/8/8/8/8/8/4K3 w - - 0 1"] 1. Ke1-f1 { 0.300 0.01 } { } 1. Qd8-d3 { 0.345 0.01 } { } 2. Interested yes, but I am afraid my lovely wife would divorce me.
What you need to do is make a list. Wife: pros and cons, blade server: pros and cons. If the wife wins, make sure you burn or eat the list before she finds it.

Re: Move ordering

The actual code for MVV/LVA I have is this: value += piecevals[GetPieceByBit(b, Bitlist{b->index[m.dest]})] - (6 - GetPieceByBit(b, Bitlist{b->index[m.from]})); The 6 - piece_type is because a King = 0 and a Pawn = 5 in my engine. I'm reasonably sure that's okay. Agr...

Re: Move ordering

I use the following formula for MVV/LVA: score += pieceval[captured_piece] * 8 - pieceval[own_piece] Or maybe * 16, I don't remember, but I think * 8 is enough using traditional piece values. Looking at your code it seems you just subtract one value from the other which must be wrong.
