Re: Regarding Strekla and CCT10+...

I'm not personally all that upset about it. But it sounds like it isn't exactly a clone but has reverse-engineered eval terms from Rybka. So if you have Rybka also participating it then you have two rather similar entries, which is somewhat undesirable.

Arasan @ WCRCC tournament

A few notes from Arasan's games at the recent ACCA WCRCC tourney: IkarusX played a strong game against Arasan in round 2. Arasan's score just went straight down - no obvious blunder but it was outplayed. In round 3, Arasan played Clarabit, came out of book on move 12, and then apparently couldn't fi...

Re: chess engines

The Arena site itself has several engines available such as Anmon, SOS and the original (free) version of Ruffian.

Winboard engines work with Arena too.

Re: Opteron versus Xeon

Well, quad core means a modern Xeon (3200-series). There is no quad core Opteron available yet. I believe they are slated to be released next month. From what I have heard the initial opteron parts will not have a clock frequency as high as had been hoped, and so may have trouble competing with Inte...

Re: In as few words as possible

This issue is getting thrashed out pretty thoroughly in the litigation SCO is involved in with IBM and Novell. SCO is claiming IBM copied their IP out of System V Unix into Linux, but since they have had great trouble finding examples of literal copying they are resorting to all kinds of devious arg...

Re: Rebel Source Code released !

It is apparently the very first version, written in BASIC. And the source code is a scanned printout. So not very useful/interesting.

difficult endgame test

[D] 8/6p1/8/p1p1p1kP/1p1pP1P1/1P1P3K/1PP5/8 b - -

This is from Havasi-Peko, Budapest 1976 - it is one of the examples in Dvoretsky's endgame book.

bm is c4, which I have verified at long time control. Arasan gets this but not rapidly.

Re: CCT 10 - Early discussion and date selection.

Last time we discussed an entry fee it was an impediment to some. I will volunteer to sponsor up to 3 entrants who could not otherwise participate due to the entry fee.
