Re: Evaluation of a winning endgame position

After 10 minutes of analysis Spark 0.3a gives +2.03 at depth 37 . Judging by the PV Spark picked the right strategy and score growth with depth suggests that in very long time it will show winning score.

Re: Linux GUI with variation board

Sorry. I mean something similar to variation board in Arena. You look at engine output lines, select a line and GUI plays the moves from engine PVs on a separate board. Scid can display a board next to an engine's window which shows engine's main line. I don't know if it is what you are looking for...

Re: can chess program see win for white after e4 h6 d4 a5?

What is the rating increase given by good opening book? Suppose that we have the same engine playing as black either with no opening book at all or with h6, a5 as the only opening. Also suppose that the white player has a rather strong book. Against an engine with a good general purpose book is it b...

Re: Odd Simple Position

I can imagine a human playing like that in blitz with Fischer time control. Instead of risking blundering a fork you simplify.

Re: can chess program see win for white after e4 h6 d4 a5?

If black is heavily booked up for this opening while white uses vanilla book I guess the chances are equal even on medium-long time controls. It will be hard to create such opening book as it will require human supervision to promote the moves that utilize black's control over b4 and g5. I guess the...

Re: Chessmaster 10th edition Personality strength levels a j

You must exploit the weaknesses of the specific personalities. If you know that your opponent values knight more than rooks you can put your rooks under knight's attack and your opponent will not try to win an exchange.

Re: can chess program see win for white after e4 h6 d4 a5?

I analyzed to depth 28 with "other engine" and by looking at the principal variations I found that a5 and h6 are not completely wasted. At some point black plays a4 or b5 or g5 to his advantage. For example if white castles long black starts the attack with c6, b5. b4. If you want a really awkward o...

Re: can chess program see win for white after e4 h6 d4 a5?

White needs 10 more turns to develop and 10 more turns to start kingside attack.
My guess is that you need at least 40 ply depth to see +1.0 score.

Re: Linux GUI with variation board

Ah, in WinBoard the PV is displayed on the main board when you select a line. from the engine-output. In XBoard this unfortunately does not work yet: I don't know how to translate a click in a text widget into a character number in the X-toolkit. Ah. :( Are there any plans for GtkBoard or QtBoard o...
