Re: Komodo 12 and MCTS

Isn't a bug?! Is it expected behavior? Komodo's causing his computer to freeze, that's a serious bug. Just a bit of clarification. The engine freezes and causes the GUI to stop giving information. The PC is still responding. Cheers, Kaj It seems odd to me that the GUI would stop working. Nothing we...

Re: Komodo 12 and MCTS

b) MCTS better against humans. I bet standard komodo is much better against computers, humans and cockroaches c) MCTS better in multi-pv mode, I highly doubt it Daniel Awesome Post. Ruthless Dissection. Game, Set and Match ! Just to address two points (many of the others were just speculation...

Re: Komodo 12 and MCTS

Why would the MCTS benefit from using the GPU? The "Why" I wouldn't know, not being a Programmer. What I DO know is that AlphaZero used TPUs while thrashing Stockfish and that the GPU version of LCZero is much stronger than the CPU version. Then why do you say it's pointless to not utilizing the GP...

Re: Komodo 12 and MCTS

Otherwise they'll be selling an early prototype that will soon become outdated. Pointless having MCTS option when its unable to use the power of the GPU or of Tensor Processing Units. Sorry, but the simple truth is that this is just a Sales Gimmick by the Komodo team trying to take advantage of the...

Re: cutechess-cli?

Thanks for all the tips! I got it working with concurrency in the GUI, and also with the -ratinginterval N command I get to see more output in the command line interface version. I have one more question: I'm running a gauntlet match of my engine against 9 opponents, using "work1.pgn" (from Ed Schr...

Re: cutechess-cli?

BTW, is cutechess-cli the best tool for playing engine matches, or is there anything else that is easier/better than cutechess-cli? Cute Chess GUI. You get a tournament table dynamically updated after each game, as well as Elo stats. This is accessed from the Tournament menu -> Results. Here is a 6...

Re: Yet another Mate scores in TT thread

AFAIK this has nothing to do with TB? It has everything to do with TB. To ensure progress to mate on the board once mate has been found in the search, distance-to-mate scores are used. These need special TT handling of the range MATE-MAX_PLY to MATE. To ensure progress to a TB win on the board once...

Re: Additional UCI output registering as massive elo losses

For some reason, every single on of these attempts is a massive elo loser in a quick SPRT test. Honestly it also depends strongly on the OS and the GUI interface you are using. Stockfish for instance (at least as of last year) outputted significantly more junk (*) than other engines with a wide Mul...

Re: Yet another Mate scores in TT thread

This is a known 'oversight' from an earlier patch, iirc.
Fixing it was part of Marco's "Natural TB" patch, but since that didn't get merged, it's still there.
