Re: Size of Transposition Table Entry

Surprising, isn't it?
The most astonishing is that even this extremely low fill ratio produces some measurable Elo gain!

Re: Size of Transposition Table Entry

With evaluation-related information perhaps you mean you store the static eval in TT? C'mon don't be shy, you can say it....hey, now that I look better....we also do that: Don't be such an ass, please. You can do better than that. Houdini 5 and 6 store threat-related and king safety info in the has...

Re: Godzilla Endgame Chess Puzzles (1)

No.2 is very nice, it takes a while to understand why removing pawn g6 is not a good idea :).

Houdini 6 finds them all, but for no.2 Tactical Mode was needed.

Re: Size of Transposition Table Entry

I save a second move to the hash sometimes. Was a little win. The next Andscacs after 0.92 will be open source. The details will be clear then. Houdini 3 and 4 also used a second hash move, it gained a couple of Elo (less than 5 Elo). Surprisingly few entries actually contained a second move, did y...

Re: Compiling Stockfish dev for Large Pages

Interesting. Here's a fresh Windows 10 Pro installation. My apologies for the Dutch Windows :) Exhibit 1: User "Robert" is Administrator on this PC http://www.cruxis.com/download/image1.png Exhibit 2: Local Policy Manager - The "Lock Pages in Memory" privilege is not assigned by default (in Dutch: "...

Re: Compiling Stockfish dev for Large Pages

Very similar as to what is described in MSDN support page for large pages (https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa366720(v=vs.85).aspx) The Houdini code does exactly that (it's also based on the MSDN example). To make this work, the user requires the Privilege to lock the pages ...

Re: On engine eval scores

While the position is probably lost, it definitely feels like a premature resignation.
I guess that a top engine would probably hold this ending with Black against Magnus.

Re: Compiling Stockfish dev for Large Pages

Lol, that's from old time when Robert didn't know how to enable user rights for large pages. In the meanwhile he learnt it so it is not required. Never looked at Sugar source but if there is a function Get_LockMemory_Privileges in tt.cpp it should be able to do it automatically, otherwise its imple...

Re: Compiling Stockfish dev for Large Pages

Norman Schmidt: Now it worked. I forget i had to run Houdini as administrator! It is mentioned in the line after the paragraph you copied, the full instruction is this: To enable this feature in Windows, you need to modify the Group Policy for your account: 1. Run: gpedit.msc (or search for "Gr...
