Re: Houdini 6 Caused Exception Error

Robert, last year, a little before the v5.01 update I requested a small feature Implementing a "Hide fail low/high" option is straightforward. My only reluctance is that another UCI option is added that clutters the options window, needs explaining and will not be used by 95+% of the users :). and ...

Re: Houdini 6 Caused Exception Error

Unfortunately nalimov egtb is only supported on Pro version. I tried Houdini 6 Standard.exe but that compile does not support DTM. Jon Fredrik, we've been able to trace down the Nalimov crash issue to a compilation difference between Visual Studio and gcc (code that works well in VS doesn't seem to...

It would be nice if engines received an estimate of the opponent's Elo at the start of the game so that they could adjust parameters accordingly :).
It would add an extra dimension to the competition.

Re: Houdini 6 has been released

Ok. Thanks. Hard to believe. Why? Our philosophy has always been that book management (in particular the probabilities of choosing between the different moves available in the opening book) is done by the GUI that runs the engine. Each GUI has its own, different book format; if you’re using Arena, ...

Thank you, Gerhard.

Re: How many kn/sec makes Houdini 6 on a Ryzen7 CPU?

So i conclude that the nps is sensitive to hash. The bigger the hash, the slower the nps. Not a fantastic effect, but at least it makes a ~10% difference in nps. That's correct, the bigger hash produces lower node speeds. Using Large Pages offsets this, it's definitely recommended with hash sizes o...

Re: Houdini 6 has been released

Support for Cerebellum bin book or bin book in general might boost Houdini sales as well, because majority of users are using Brainfish with Cerebellum bin format... Isn't Cerebellum available in a common format that GUIs can read? It feels a bit weird to implement "yet another opening book format"...

Re: Houdini 6 has been released

I don't know why you are not very interested in TCEC. I am very interested in TCEC, but it's not a deciding factor in the release cycle of Houdini. Sending in versions at each Stage that are marginally better than the previous one, is not hugely relevant. For me it's definitely at least as interest...

Re: Houdini 6 has been released

I did forget to ask you something Robert. I did buy the standard version. If I decided to upgrade to the pro version at some point, would I need to pay for the full version (60$) or the difference ? When the need arises, you can send us a mail and we'll direct you to an upgrade page on which you ca...
