Re: Amazing test position

That's possible, so the study may be cooked.
The question is whether 1.Ng7+ Kg5 2.Nf3+ Kg4 3.Ke4! (Dann's move) 3...h3 4.Nf5 g1Q 5.Nh6 Kh5 6.Ng1 h2 7.Nf3 h1Q 8.Nf5 really leads to draw. I don't know the answer yet.

Re: Amazing test position

I have analysed that study few years ago and then it seemed sound (no double solution, only 1.Kc6!! draws). C. Behting Bohemia - 1906 2/5.Pr. [d]8/8/7p/3KNN1k/2p4p/8/3P2p1/8 w - - Draw 1.Kc6!! mutual zugzwang [1.Nxh4? Kxh4! (1...g1Q? 2.Nhf3=) 2.Nf3+ Kg3 3.Ng1 h5-+; 1.Nf3? h3 2.Ke4 h2 3.Ng3+ Kg4 4.Nx...

Re: Another endgame that the Rybka family fails at

I have checked the endgame by Deep Shredder 12 using 6 men tablebases, and indeed it seems to be a draw after Rc1. Why I have tried Ra3? Because after Rc1, f4+ looked as winning at the first sight. Ra3 (or Rd3) keeps that pawn pinned. It is very interesting that in many variations the best square fo...

Analysing with an engine - an idea

What if the human player could tell the engine during analysis that some key positions are draws or wins and to remember them by making a permanent hash entry?
I think that can improve a lot the speed of the analysis.

Re: Another endgame that the Rybka family fails at

All I can say now that the endgame is a draw... or a win for white. I was trying to find the truth about Robert's endgame when my attention was distracted by the discovery of the positional draw with Kf7!-Kg7!. I don't remember exactly how I get there, the line was something like this (but wit...

Re: Ooops!

I was analysing your endgame when a have found a nice idea, so I have composed a little study:

[D]2r5/6k1/8/5PP1/2p5/8/5R2/4K3 w - - 0 1

White wins

The solution:...tomorrow...

Re: Stockfish change request.

I am using engines mostly for analysing endgames. Stockfish seems a very strong engine but it doesn't use tablebases... Do you plan to add that feature?

Re: Any engine see a draw?

This is a dead draw position but with the black king on a8 white loses.
It would be nice to see an engine which would recognise a fortress or a blockade in the endgame. Is there any?

Re: chess question: can K R B vs K R B B draw here? (SF1.7 w

My question - are there table bases for K R B vs K R BB and if 2 GMs reached this position would they agree to a draw? A few years ago Marc Bourzutschky and Yakov Konoval had computed some 7 men tablebases, but they never published the databases. Some of their results can be found here: http://www....
