Getting rid of the 50 move rule

Do you know an engine which can be set to always ignore the 50 move rule and not only in the Syzygy TB's? If I am not mistaken, after switching of the Syzygy50MoveRule UCI option in Stockfish, the engine still uses the rule.

Re: "IQ test" for engines

Must be a study. I hate not to know the authors of good studies. Not in YACPDB and not in Arves to be found. Google always finds links to collections of such positions, but that doesn't help usually, because you don't even find the single position in the collection, and even if, there are no source...

Re: Andscacs 0.91 finds 67...e4! Good Testposition

Yet it has something study- like, hasn't it? Black is able just to force with Bishop- Triangles the White King to leave the same- coulored squares again and again alternating to advancing one Queen- side pawn after another being in Cyclic Zugzwang. Where is Arpad Rusz and where is Mihai Neghina? :)...

Re: Will you use hash saving?

A hash table can contain several millions of entries. So a pgn file seems not to be a good container for it. Also there are a lot of other drawbacks. Pgn databases can also contain millions of games and even more positions. But I was thinking mainly to save only parts of the hash (by material "slic...

Re: Will you use hash saving?

What about saving the hash (or part of it) to a pgn-file? Then we could use some mining tools (like CQL http://gadycosteff.com/cql/doc/introduction.html) to find interesting positions or lines.

Re: Need material for a speech

I propose the following starting position for testing the pawnless 7Q/3N endgame:

[D]1nn5/nkn5/nnn5/8/8/8/6QQ/6QK w - - 0 1

The position doesn't have immediate tactics from any side.

BN/Q 0.02%
BB/Q 0.21%
NN/Q 4.14%
RN/Q 16.8%
RB/Q 21.56%
RR/Q 45.68%

Re: Defence vs. Attack

Almost all positions when the king defends the two knights which are on laterally adjacent squares are drawn. [D]3qk3/8/8/8/3NN3/4K3/8/8 b - - 0 1 These positions are lost if we have two bishops or a bishop + knight against the queen. [D]3qk3/8/8/8/3BB3/4K3/8/8 b - - 0 1 [D]3qk3/8/8/8/3BN3/4K3/8/8 b...

Re: Defence vs. Attack

No, Q/BN is a general win. There is only one fortress but that can be reached from relatively few positions. [D]7q/8/8/3k4/4N3/8/6B1/6K1 b - - 0 1 Similar is the case of Q/BB. There is only one fortress and everything must be almost set up. [D]8/8/8/1k4q1/8/5BB1/6K1/8 b - - 0 1 (With the black king ...

Defence vs. Attack

When a human plays chess it usually knows when it is attacking and when it is defending. Engines should also do the same! For example, when the engine is on defence it is important for it to know that: - Pawns restricted only to one flank give better chances to keep the draw. Some bonus is due for h...
