Re: World Chess Computer Champion?

Martin we do know that you were not promoting your tournament as a WCCC event in any way, and I tried to state this often in my post, and I am sorry for any drag that this Komodo issue has had on your fine tournament. You have clearly stated it several times. So there is absolutely nothing to apolo...

Re: World Chess Computer Champion?

Any organisation can run a World Championship, and the winner can claim that title. The ICGA is one example. Actually this is almost universally not true. The way it works in real life is that people who engage in a certain competative activity organize themselves into an official representative bo...

Re: TCEC Season 6 Gull Critter Game

Gull never saw it coming ... I wonder if it was a bug? It's not a bug. The game losing blunder is 87. Rg8, according to 6-men TB. Even at that point Critter didn't see the win (using 5-men TB), and found it a few moves later. Seeing that 87. Rg8 loses the game is way beyond the horizon of the searc...

Re: Hiarcs....

Most often those to criticize first are ones with no first hand knowledge of the subject at hand and have made no contribution to the area concerned. In my case, I haven't criticized any. All fine with author decision to not lend his engine. Just proposed an alternative way to include Hiarcs: Buyin...

Re: Hiarcs....

I doubt a license will prohibit the use of engine in a tournament. I have vague memories a few years back of the Junior licence agreement specifically prohibiting its use in a particular tournament. I can't recall the exact details, maybe it was Junior or perhaps another engine. Ray, In a world whe...

Re: Hiarcs....

As far I know if you BUY an engine you are free to do a tournament and post results. Or a Live tournament as TCEC or the ones hosted by Graham. What you can and cannot do would be covered in the licence agreement. Of course. I doubt a license will prohibit the use of engine in a tournament. For me,...

Re: Hiarcs....

About Hiarcs..... I have read the full thread about his retirement of a tournament and I scarcely can believe how much harsh the criticism can be for a senior and respected programmer that has been in this area for many years. Mark Uniacke make all or at least a part of his income of this business....

Re: Hiarcs withdraws from TCEC Season 6

From the time you announced i was asking myself why not to buy the engine and use it anyway. The H14 participation probably is good for your tournament. On the other side, I understand you already are spending a lot in time, coding, hardware and promoting so is easy to understand ... why to spend €...

Re: Hiarcs withdraws from TCEC Season 6

At the same time, please pardon my ignorance, but do you actually need the programmer's permission to have an engine participate in your competition? On what basis? (I'm assuming you do own Hiarcs 14) Regards, CL Hi Carl, As stated in my original post, Mark sent me a H14 license for free so Hiarcs ...

Re: Dear all TCEC fans: New website up. Season 6 -> 7th o

Looks great, and much more easy (to my eyes) to find information.
Congratulations for your achievement.

Ignacio.
