This position crashes Houdini 1.5 and Stockfish

[D]2r2q1k/6pp/Q4pn1/3p4/2p1n3/5P2/PPP4P/4R1K1 b KQkq Both Houdini 1.5 64 bit and Stockfish 2.01-ja 64 bit crash when trying to analyze this position with SCID-vs-PC 4.2. Neither outputs much more than gibberish before they crash Neither has a problem if it's changed to White to move. Toga has no pro...

Re: Houdini is getting some wider press. Congratulations!

Exactly who appointed CCRL or any of the others the "official" status? Vas Rajlich? Garry Kasparov? The ghost of Bobby Fischer? Does FIDE recognize any of these as official? Do any national chess federations recognize any of these as official? Is there an official, accredited Computer Chess Society?...

Well excuse me.

You are replying to my post, but it looks like you didn't even read it. Again, the engine is broken, not the GUI. Miguel Was I supposed to make a post that says "Pass" and then reply to it so that I would be replying to myself? Your post was the last one there before I posted, the "Reply" button wa...

Re: Stockfish is already accused of cloning....

I stopped reading that post after I came across this: Engines like Stockfish, Critter, Spark and others are tactically very strong because the search algorithm is optimized very good. But these engines lack chess knowledge, they just have a basic understanding of positional aspects. The Rybka people...

Re: Dr. Deeb was right

I would like to see the improvement as noted by the IPON people---or whatever other computer engine testing group that allows the alleged "illegal" engines to compete (i.e. not the "Gimme a free Rybka-4 please." hemorrhoid-counters).

Re: Houdini and Chessbase GUI engine matches

I can understand Chessbase not updating its software to be compliant with UCI. It isn't as though UCI is all that popular. There have to be at least 2 or 3 programs that still use Winboard. Why rush into UCI support when it's likely to just be a soon-to-fade fad? And I understand that Chessbase is f...

Re: Fritz 12 Joke

In business as a general rule, the bigger a company gets, the more complacent it gets, and the less it cares about customer service or public relations (i.e. support). In 1936 A&P was the largest grocer in the United States, bar none. In 1950, Penn Central (Railroad) was the largest corporation in t...

Re: Mr.Siemelink-here is a trade mark problem !

For the record (and note that I'm not an attorney): (tm) ™ (goods), or (sm) ℠ (services) designation means that the mark (which can be such as non-public-domain words, sounds, logos, color combinations, etc.) has been claimed but not registered. Such claims can sometimes be enforced if the pro...

Stockfish is a clone of Glarung!!

Yes, I know that Stockfish is a fork of Glarung. Having read this forum for a few weeks, I've come to the conclusion that 95% of what's posted here is repetitive. I know that others have come to that conclusion as well, and such has been mentioned. My opinions, based on what I've read here and elsew...

Re: Question about Fruit

Think about this: You are not going to convince any civilized or reasonable person about your beliefs trashing this forum with personal insults and such a displeasing behaviour. The best you can get by this is to convince people about your own character. You're not going to convince anybody here or...
