Re: cheng3 uci v1.0

Mediafire seems to do a great job hosting binaries for free. If you are willing to release the source, there's a multitude of good options. IMO there's no shame in releasing messy source code. Everybody here who's an honest programmer has written a mess, and won't judge harshly. Everybody here who'...

cheng3 uci v1.0

Hi all,

I'm just releasing my ~2300 engine (Windows/UCI only)
The download link is here: http://lazybug.wz.cz/cheng3_uci_v1.0.zip
If someone would be willing to host it elsewhere I'd be happy.

Thanks and enjoy

Re: Stockfish random generator (rkiss.h)

I'd like to ask what's the license for the random number generator routine used in latest stockfish (rkiss.h). I'd like to use it in my program (not necessarily for chess) for it seems to be very fast and very good (MT way too slow and complicated). Thanks. A small noncryptographic pseudorandom num...

Re: A fast PRNG for generating hash codes

The result was that about 100 games were identical book draws! Now I seed WinBoard with milliseconds. So anyone with a machine that's ten times as fast as yours is going to run into the same problem? Or what if they run [core count] copies of Winboard concurrently? Indeed, this could still be a pro...

Re: Transposition tables for newbs

First, most authors will use the term "draft" here instead of "depth" to avoid confusion. Draft, of course, is the difference between the ply at which an entry is stored and the number of full width plies from where the terminal value was determined. An intermediate programming step is to not refer...

Re: What's wrong with this EPD?

StockFish seems to search ~77M nodes at depth 1 in that position. After that it works fine. Gaviota seems to be ok here (sees mate in 2.5 seconds). Is this a mate in 12? Miguel 4546 1: 0.0 +3.86 1.Rxd5+ Kxd5 2.Naxc7+ Bxc7 3.Nxc7+ Kc5 5755 2 0.0 :-) 1.Rxd5+ 11213 2: 0.0 +5.07 1.Rxd5+ Kxd5 2.Qxd6...

Re: Pervious World Champion Engine Authors Speak Out...

No matter how much it morphed from version 1, it still stands upon the shoulders of Fruit 2.1. Without the Fruit fundamentals it would not be where it is. And that is probably true of most strong engines now. I think few have not borrowed some algorithm or trick from Fruit. But only one is being ac...

Re: David Levy asked for opinions

Either sue Rajlich whoever has the right to do so or shut up. This witch hunt starts to get annoying. Would go after Rybka if it was #2 or #3? I really doubt that. Hypocrisy. Jealousy.
