Thanks Steve. Your blog inspired me to implement magic bitboards in my engine (Tucano). I was using plain bitboards but never took a serious look at magic bitboards. With your explanation I finally had a little push to implement it.

Thanks Matthew and Lucas and Jose, I understand what you say, maybe Matt used strong words to describe the 2 "schools" of engines: 1) the ones that have few knowledge in evals, fast search and, 2) the ones that have lot of knowledge in evals and have slower search. Thanks for tournament. It seems Tucano found its home :)
I moved last month, so I didn't had a chance to make any changes for a while. But now I'm back to chess programming. Hopefuly I'll have some improvements before next tournament.
