Re: Debugging for lazy chess programmers

I have the following test commands in my engine: - perft: regular move count from current position. - perftx: detailed perf with additional counts of captures, castle, promotions, etc, for a couple of starting positions. Based on the wiki programming page about perft. - perfty: another perft version...

Re: Tucano 3.00 Release

Hi Alcides, I recognized your now reduced magic lookup table for bishops for max 9 bit occupancies: U64 bishop_attack_table[64][512]; But why do you still use variable shift for that memory layout? You may initialize the tables that way, to shift always by const 64-9 (bishop) or 64-12 (rook) even f...

Tucano 3.00 Release

Hello, There is a new Tucano engine available. Should be about 30 elo points stronger than 2.00. Changes are mostly code review, improved pruning at search, some evaluation tuning and a time management bug fix. Next step is to keep working on improving Tucano, as always :) Hope you have fun ! Downlo...

Re: Is Fruit strength related to NPS?

I have a new release of tucano in a few days. I'm thinking to work on improving performance in general for next release. Let's say you improve something and get extra 1000 node here, another 2000 there and so on. It goes with what Steve said, to have just what is necessary in eval for example. Just ...

Is Fruit strength related to NPS?

I have been testing my engine, Tucano, against Fruit for a while. I know fruit is very well written and well tuned, and even with many improvements tucano is still unable to beat it. I know I have a lot of work to do. So I was wondering if ONE of the strengths of fruit is its nodes per second. I not...

Re: Final Standings

I have a new Tucano release in a few days. Take care! I will. Good to see some serious development in the area where iCE plays. Here the real battle takes place. I will probably not release a new version of iCE before 2014. Given the time I have available for it things take their time. So Tucano ha...

Re: Value of Null Move...

Hi Alberto, (...)I don't understand why you evaluate the board after calling make_null_move(..). In Maverick the board is *always* evaluated before alphabeta is called. When I eventually add LMR I think it will be of value when deciding if there should be a depth reduction. Your implementation of n...

I couldn't agree more! I checked this thread every day (at least!) to see the new results :)
