Re: WChess PV settings

Hello jcg, I don't know Dave Kittinger's program, but from the sound of it this looks like a form of Multi PV. For an alpha beta program, rule of thumb says that about half of the time is spent in the PV, rest in exploring the other rootmoves. If you want two PVs the time to reach the same depth wil...

Re: What's up with this endgame?

Now Kaissa seems to get stuck a little here Louis... :o Assuming I entered the line correctly into Uly's pgn so far. Could it be a tablebase thing? But 63...Be4 seems just a wrong move... Or is it just because you disabled nullmove in CFish? That I can believe, if it is some sort of Zugzwang and Sto...

Re: What's up with this endgame?

8/3b2k1/1p3pp1/3p1p2/3P1P2/P3P3/5KP1/5B2 b - - At depth 100/187 SF dev finally shows +2.96 with analysis contempt on (c=24 so real eval is probably around +3.2 is my guess). So this might just be mate in N from this position. I doubt that this position is a win for White. Black should simply avoid ...

Re: What's up with this endgame?

I can see that the difference is in the following position 8/1k6/5pB1/K2p1pp1/3P1P2/3bP1P1/8/8 w - - 11 67 Here g4 is not good and without the pawns g5 e3 the move g4 is winning. I think you are right Uri, with pawns g5 and e3 still on board Uly would have just drawn that particular position. 8/2k5...

Re: What's up with this endgame?

Could be Uri but does Stockfish see that too? Without tablebases I don't think everything is reliable on my end. Black loses the move g4-g5 (Zwischenzug is that the right word?) though so that maybe changes the Zugzwang situation if he takes gxf4?

Re: What's up with this endgame?

(Between moves 50 and 60) Judging by the 0.95 scores here, at move 53 Kaissa thinks Stockfish blundered away the half point (quickly sees that 53..gxf4 is wrong) and this still draw: 8/K1k5/1p3p2/3p1pp1/3P1P2/PB1bP1P1/8/8 b - - Engine: Kaissa IV NoContempt (512 MB) by T. Re: What's up with this endgame?

Stockfish end of 2017 can't have been all that bad  What did it miss? At move 50 Kaissa with no tablebases thinks this about drawish: 4B3/K1k5/1p3pp1/3p1p2/3P1P2/P2bP3/6P1/8 b - - Engine: Kaissa IV NoContempt (one thread, version 154B, 512 MB) by T. Romstad, M. Re: One more issue with king safety/attack for Stockfish

If you make very small changes, with one thread the time to solution greatly varies so mainly search luck seems important. With many threads the chance of success is of course higher so SF not finding it quickly with one thread maybe does not matter very much. I could not find something easily repai...

Re: Analyze a position

Kaissa thinks that e4 and d5 can transpose, but definitely no 0.00 eval for both. This is with Multi PV started after the single line search, so it can profit from that first search. The PV is now more similar to that of Louis's CFish. No tablebases though that can make a difference and there are so...

Re: Analyze a position

Strange, only -0.20 eval with Stockfish? I do get the same d5 (eventually) but the evals are much lower here? r2qkb1r/1b3ppp/p3pn2/1p6/2pP4/2N1PN2/PPQ2PPP/R1BR2K1 w kq - Engine: Kaissa IV NoContempt (one thread, search 035, 512 MB) by T.
