Re: Toga 0.1.1 released

The first thing I do is try to understand the structure of a program, the way it flows. This program flows like Fruit. The difference is mostly cosmetic. There is no essential difference. If other people don't see it's the same, that's ok. If other people claim it's different because they didn't se...

Re: Chess programs are worth more than ever! get all?

In 1995 Fritz beat a single chip prototype of the kind that was eventually developed into the chess processors used by Deep Blue. It was perhaps 1% as strong as Deep Blue. Oh! And are you SURE about that? I had thought it was after the 1996 match, and WITH most of its strength. If as you say, then ...

Re: Chess programs are worth more than ever! get all?

I still agree with what I used to say years ago, that I strongly believe there exists a way to determine things from a small sample of games. Highly rated players are often saying what they seem to be claiming is proffesional judgement on these things. So maybe they sometimes DO know what they're a...

Re: Toga 0.1.1 released

As to whether it is like Fruit and/or Toga -- again be your own judge. In this case, the eval is the same and the search is different. Are you serious ??? I had a look at the Sloppy sourcecode and if you don't see that it's a Fruit rewrite by putting stuff into multiple static functions where they ...

Re: Chess programs are worth more than ever! get all?

Not only that, but I bet that top freeware programs are well above the legendary deep blue as well. Not to be contrary, but I doubt it. I'm pretty sure Rybka 1.0 Beta could beat Deep Blue, Rybka Beta was just far ahead of its time and revolutionized computer chess, without it, I think we would be s...

Re: Why are authors charging EXTRA for Deep versions?

You see a (standard) version for $49 and then you are offered a Deep ver for $99. Single CPU computers are just about fazed out. Most people have a dual/Quad setup so why are they charging more? I say it comes down to greed. I know this subject was hammered before but now it's even more of a pertin...

Re: Chess programs are worth more than ever! get all?

Therefore it would seem to me that any comercial program from the top ones, are all very very good buys. Maybe they are all well above the legendary deeper blue, on todays common computers. Not only that, but I bet that top freeware programs are well above the legendary deep blue as well. Not to be...

http://www.newinchess.com/Shop/ProductDetails.aspx?ProductID=2135 Remember not that long ago, when Shredder 7.04 dominated the scene for 2 years? This was after Hiarcs 7 had done the same, and that was preceded from Genius 3. So Shredder was staggering, and no other program seemed to reach that mar...
