I think that the ultimate goal of computer chess is to play perfect chess and eventually to solve the game. We are still decades away from that. I gave a bunch of strong programs WACNEW.EPD (WAC + Corrections) and let several strong programs run at 6 seconds per position. The worst one for solution count was... Rybka! I used to think that very strong, rapid tactical ability was a necessary but not sufficient condition for a very strong chess...

can anybody estimate how many rating points are gained by turning ponder on in SSDF (standard) time controls?
