Re: help for a linux develop environment

For engine testing I guess cutechess-cli is a nice tool. It can be bit hard to use if you are not used to to scripts, but the doc gives some clear examples. I guess that Arena works fine on linux under wine. In that case I guess you should compile a windows version of your engine under linux... but ...

Re: help for a linux develop environment

Hi Marco One of the "issues" with linux is that sometimes you have too much options :) If you feel comfi using eclipse just keep on it. On the other hand, if you are in the mood for testing new tools qt-creator can be a good idea (don't get tricked by the "qt" in its name, it can perfectly handle C/...

Re: review of my code

Those are god news. I guess you should follow Jonh Merlino's hint above and test some hard positions: http://www.talkchess.com/forum/viewtopic.php?topic_view=threads&p=530753&t=49034 As you can see in that thread, even very serious engines many years working without an issue were able to find some n...

Re: Debugging for lazy chess programmers

Maybe it was a coincidence, but a couple of times I was aware of the existence of bugs in my code because different compile options gave place to a different number of nodes. For example a plain "gcc -o my_engine *.c" vs "gcc -O3 -o myengine *.c". At least this situation arose twice; in one occasion...

Re: The official FIDE 2013 World Championship set

Probably it's due to the B&W pictures, but I always liked a lot the set from the 1993 match between Short and Timman:

"You can't beat a good compiler... right?"

Hi all I just found this blog entry about how to improve a piece of C code by studying the assembly output: http://lbrandy.com/blog/2010/06/you-cant-beat-a-good-compile/ What called my attention was the simpleness of the improved code and the "improving factor" (almost 5 times faster). The original ...

Re: Please help installing Chessx

Still having a hard time installing chessx? Well I have to recognise that having come experience installing linux software from the sources I couldn't make it but with the help of this link: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=124358 I guess a summary could be: 1- Download and decompres...

Re: FICS server down

+1 Kitteneitor, a fairly weak engine (its elo in the spanish chess engines list by Pedro Castro is around 1800) is playing on fics almost 24/7 1m +4s games, its elo in fics is around 1950, and the number of defeats is quite low; if something like 70% of people on fics were cheating Kitteneitor's elo...

Re: Kitteneitor source code by Emilio Diaz

In the case of Pedro I was in a rush and I chose that not many sensible name.

In this case I guess 0.22.1 will be more appropriate.

Thanks to all for your interest!
