Re: NICE 1.1

I tried if NICE is able to measure the progress of Stockfish by month. Stockfish 11 (as far as I can tell) was released half of januari. I downloaded 5 development versions from the abrok.eu site and put them into NICE using Lcx.epd (81.xxx positions), time control 250ms. The result: EPD : epd\lcx.e...

NICE 1.1

NICE 1.1 is a considerable update over version 1.0 including better documentation, hence a new thread. Some snippets..... • While 1.0 had it's focus on fast time controls between 100-500ms for evaluation tuning mainly we added 2 formula for longer time controls (1000ms and 2000ms) in order to tune s...

Re: MEA and temere.epd

I just tested on various Amoeba's versions (1.0 to 3.2 in development), and using my own MEA implementation¹ the impact of time bonus. It seems to just add noise to the score. Let's check if we are talking about the same. Hypothetical example from the start position: depth-1 bm Nf3 time 5 ms depth-...

Re: New sets of postions for NICE/MEA (60k & 274k)

This is correct, except that the many positions you speak of actually are only a fraction of the total positions and because of volume it is irrelevant for the final result. Feel free to disagree  Like you I started with one best move = 10 points and it doesn't work, I ran your ce rebe-l ite....

Re: MEA and temere.epd

I am doubtful about this time bonus... Yes, but note that second (third/fourth) best moves with 9 points are almost as good as the best move. And volume (10,000 positions at least) is extremely important to weed out randomness. I just tested on various Amoeba's versions (1.0 to 3.2 in development),...

Re: New sets of postions for NICE/MEA (60k & 274k)

Why not just match engine generated answers with cerebellum book answers and you don't have to generate any positions. The main reason for this is - I and many others probably wouldn't know how to make that matching at big scale and then compare score. My sets are compatible with NICE and MEA so th...
