Fritz 11 update - March 5, 2008

Well there is another new Fritz 11 update. This one is dated March 5, 2008. I found it by chance when clicking the query update option in Fritz 11 on the Playchess server. I did have to uninstall the previous service pack before I could update to the new version. http://www.64thsquare.com/Update.jpg

Re: Help buying a new computer

Dell consumer PCs have cheap plastic cases. Some of the smaller ones are very space constrained and limit expansion. Something like an Antec steel case ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129155 ) is far more durable and has better cooling. As mentioned also built-in graphics...

Re: Rybka lost

Rybka (the strongest program) lost to GM Roman Dzindzichashvili with black but rybka didn't have the b7 pawn. Roman Dzindzichashvili had 3 connected passed pawns on the kingside and Rybka has 1 passed pawn on the queenside which couldn't advance without being taken by the rock. You can watch the ga...

Re: Asus Eee PC and Linux

Yes, I read it could run XP, but was interested in whether there are decent programs for Linux. Surely somebody out there is using Linux for chess?? Hi Ted. True there are very good deals for laptops, but I think they are likely to weigh noticeably more, which would be a key issue. As for the scree...

Re: Asus Eee PC and Linux

Hi James, The screen size will annoy you after a while, they could have made it (screen) a little bit bigger. It uses SD drives, and yes it can run XP. I wanted it for a pentest system running Backtrack Linux. So I tried it but returned it next day for a $379 Aspire AS4315-2963 which was in the same...

DreamChess 0.2.0

I was catching up on my Linux readings when I came up on this program in Linux Format (issue 102). Checking the website http://www.dreamchess.org I found that the program works on Windows, Mac OS, and Linux. It comes with it's own chess engine called "Dreamer" , however you can use any winboard ches...
