I have seen this happen in Apple notebooks and desktops, including relatively recent iMac machines. I will wait until Ankan has a chance to take a furthe...

Castling does not reset the half move counter

Castling does not reset the half move counter. Only captures and pawn moves do this.

How many irreversible moves? How many single reply moves? These counters could be added, but I'd very ...

I have computed the first 100 work units using my updated program (with 128 bit hashes). Here are the results: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4d0eT2FyxrqbGRGbTdUQ3R2Qm8/view?usp=sharing I see several differences, starting with work unit 017. Re: Six perft(7) mismatches from work unit 529

Thank you for your verification calculations.

It is only by such independent calculations that errors due to cosmic rays can be detected.

----

Symbolic has produced more than 55,300,000 perft(7) results so far, about 57.37% of the 96,400,068 needed.

Cosmic rays and ECC memory

Cosmic rays and ECC memory One, and only one, machine in use for the Perft(14) project has ECC RAM. It's a 2006 quad core 2.66 GHz Xeon Mac Pro, now with 32 GiB memory -- quite fast ten years ago, not so much today. I've checked its logs and no ECC errors have ever been detected; this for a machine ...
