Re: Houdini 3 running for the IPON

OK, so CCRL blitz is quite a bit faster than CEGT blitz now, since they use 40/3 even if that is equivalent to 40/6 or more on your "base" hardware. Maybe it's good to have two significantly different levels for "blitz" on the two lists. I guess for CEGT the argument for switching to increment cont...

Re: Houdini 3 running for the IPON

We don't have any machines that are faster than 40/2.

But of course you don't always need to round. ChessGUI and Winboard for example let you specify minutes and seconds, which is exactly what I do. e.g. 40 moves in 2mins 15secs on this machine.

Re: Houdini 3 released

I'm still a little confused. Not sure of the download process. I have 5 computers. I understand that the default is 3 and I can request more BUT do I have to access the internet from each of my computers or is it one download? Some of my computers are 32-bit and some 64-bit. I have not purchased a ...

No we did not do that. I don't know where you got that idea from. I think CEGT mentioned it.

Re: Houdini 3 running for the IPON

I think it's time for CEGT and CCRL to seriously consider switching to increment play. Repeating time control play is obsolete for both humans and computers. When we started our list there were engines that didn't support this sort of time control. Repeating time control was the most compatible ove...

Re: strenght of Houdini 3 at chess960

+88 Elo final result. But just 600 games against 6 opponents. I will play extra games against these six to get the game count up.

Houdini was boosted by results against weaker players, e.g. Chiron and Shredder. Had I included Spike and Hiarcs, the rating would have been even higher.

Re: strenght of Houdini 3 at chess960

I've had to delete the matches vs Hiarcs and Spike. The Elo difference is over 400 Elo, which breaks my guidelines in terms of allowable Elo range for pairings. The list is re-calculating and will be available in a few hours. I will play more games with the top few engines as Robert suggests, becaus...

Yes, I may have to do that.
