Small update of the Little Compendium
Hi, Here is a small addendum to the LittleCompendium: http://www.winboardengines.de/doc/addendum4lcec_2012.pdf I thought the previous version would have been the final version, but obviously it had been the last before the final one. What might be new: - apex and medium pawns (members of a group of ...

Re: Houdini 3 released
Maybe there is some pattern about such positions that could be used to activate it while using normal mode by default. This would, of course, improve the overall play of the engine. This optimal solution with highest playing strength already exists, it's the default engine playing style. It provide...

Re: Houdini 3 released
Thanks, Robert. So you are actually a Flemish? When I asked about the tactical mode, I thought that it would not be very reasonable to expect from users to switch back and forth to tactical and normal mode, moreover that most users would not have objective criteria to know with certainty which posi...

Re: Houdini 3 released
Test positions are normal game positions. Tactical mode probably works well when there is tactics to be found such as in a test position. Obviously Houdini cannot know this in advance.... Hi Robert. Congratulations and many thanks for a wonderful engine! Houdini is a piece of art. I have 2 questions...

Re: Houdini 3 released
Hi Robert. Congratulations and many thanks for a wonderful engine! Houdini is a piece of art. I have 2 questions: 1. not important, but still interesting to know - what is the pronunciation of Houdini? Is the 'h' actually pronounced or not? It is logical that the name of the engine is patterned aft...

Re: Performancerating of Kasparov and Deep Blue in their mat
Hi Jens. Thanks for your effort! 50 elo difference in performance in Deep Blue's favour when it actually lost the match in 1996 is obviously wrong. 200 elo difference in performance in Deep Blue's favour in the second match when it actually won by a very narrow margin with just 6 games is obviously ...

Re: It Rhymes!: What In Hell Do I Do With Godel!??????
For those officially testing this engine- does that mean if I was using the Uci adapters for the previous version to run it as Uci in Fritz 11 and 13- that I should continue and do the same with this new version? Or should I switch and just run this one as straight Uci? Hi Georges ! WOW ! A terriff...

This might make sense
I think a generalized solution for piece configurations could be applied. Piece configurations are meanigful because of the extent of control of complementary squares. If we introduce the concept of piece capacities, this might be of help. Pieces will have 4 capacities: diagonal pieces, linear piece...

Re: The same as 10 years ago
Have you tried Rybka 3 human or any other "antihuman" version of some commercial engines? Could that be a valid solution for this kind of closed positions against humans? I'd like to know your opinions about this. Hi Carlos. I might have played some games against it, but it was weaker than Rybka 3 ...
