Re: ICT Leiden: Third round 2 games on Playchess

Yes, Vas confirmed that the draw with Baron was due to lack of Tablebases. It was apparently giving problems with the GUI ... but that now TB would be "hardwired in".

Is this positions drawn ??

Topalov vs. Mamedyrov

[d]3Q4/6pk/5r1p/4K2P/8/8/8/8 w - - 0 63

Topalov gave up trying to win and went for a draw ... but engines see a big plus for white. Is this position theoretically drawn ... or was Topalov too tired to find out if a win exists? Which engine also sees a draw ?

Re: ICT Leiden : first round , first surprise !?!

Yes poor endgame play by Rybka. DF10 gets Kg2 almost instantly as probably quite a few other engines I suppose. I think it has more to do with the understanding of what drawn rook vs pawn engames are. This type of knowledge should be added to Rybka as Rybka matures. Ryba just didn't realize that the...

Re: Rybka 2.3.2 is about 50 Elo stronger....

Yes Rybka could possibly be stronger than 50 ELO points ... but just in case testing does not come out that way ... people should understand that Vas mentioned the 50 ELO figure in a head to head match of 2.3.1 vs 2.3.2 As for beating Rybka, to be honest I don't know how I would prepare for that. If...

Re: Rybka 2.3.2 is about 50 Elo stronger....

I think people should interpret what Vas said more accurately. He said that 2.3.2 is more than 50 ELO stronger than 2.3.1 in head to head competition. You have to realize that 2.3.1 had a few bugs that probably made it play around 30 ELO weaker. So this 50 ELO point gain might actually only be 20 or...

Re: The Intel Q6600 will be $266 USD!

That will have to be the deal of the century. A Quad core high performance processor for $266. The Q6600 can easily cruise at 3Ghz ... imagine ... 4 cores at 3Ghz for $266. Multiple Processor platforms are here to stay.

Re: Rybka vs top human match?? Hydra vs Rybka would be bette

I think that by far ... Rybka is the most difficult engine for a human to handle. Junior is a little too aggressive and plays some attacks that turn out to be unsound. With enough time, a super GM will have no problem refuting an unsound line. Rybka is a little more conservative, but it has an evalu...

Re: Rybka vs top human match?? Hydra vs Rybka would be bette

Let's make one thing clear. There are engines and then there is Rybka playing on a minimum of Quad core and 64 bit OS. This Rybka is a formidable opponent that cannot be compared to a single CPU Shredder 9 or CM series ... the difference is tremendous. I know that for a fact because I was able to ge...

Re: Rybka vs top human match?? Hydra vs Rybka would be bette

I believe the 3 move opening book really evens out the match. A well prepared strong GM should have a 50% chance of winning. At the moment engines can play tremendously strong with use of specially prepared books. A strong GM is usually extremely well prepared with opening theory ... I think everyon...

Re: From Russia With Love........

It is not in Vas's personality to jump the gun and claim this or that is a clone. Even if he was 99% sure it was a clone, he would not say it simply because there is still a 1% doubt. When Rybka came on the scene I think only a very few people mentioned it might be a clone, but after Rybka had playe...
