Re: How can I switch off hyperthreading?

Curious results running Houdini 3 Tactical on Arasan 15 test suite (5s position) on my i7 2600. 4 threads: 161/200 Average time 1.29s 8 threads: 167/200 Average time 1.57s Maybe, after all, HT is beneficial? YES, it is ! This is what I've been saying for some time. Read this thread for further deta...

Re: New chess computer

Thank you for your thoughts and figures. Unfortunately we could not find the 3930K processor in Antalya and around. We must use the unique alternative i7 3960x, probably at 3,5 GHz. I would have preferred an OC solution around 5 GHz myself. That will not happen this time. If I ever get my money tha...

Hi all! My opinion: Don't buy a hyperthreading CPU for premium price for chess! My calculations: When you switch on HT, the OS sceduler balances the thread loads between the virtual processors. You will see 5/8 speed on every virtual processor, because the hyperthread has only 1/4 speed of the real...

Re: New chess computer

[quote="] Running more threads increases the inefficiency of the parallel alpha-beta search. You need a 20% higher node speed to compensate for a doubling of the number of threads. Example: a 6-core running at 20,000 kN/s will be about as strong as a 12-core running at 24,000 kN/s, or a 16-core run...

Re: Houdini 3 update does behave the same in 64-bit and 32-b

Hmm.... actually a software engineer friend of mine, who also has H3, reports that the updated version plays about 15-20 ELO stronger than the original H3...much better evaluation and search also... and he's using an Intel Core i5 !! So, I feel everyone should install the new updated version, regar...
