TCEC Superfinal - Stockfish leading AllieStein

I know this is a bit simplistic, but I wonder if this is largely what it boils down to: Stockfish sees far enough/fast enough that - more often than not - it can keep much of the edge one might think an NN engine like AllieStein would 'conjur' up to a minimum...and then as more pieces come off the b...

Re: why was 36. ... Qa6 played ...

No idea, but position bad enough to be considered 'lost'...is lost, whatever you play.

Re: why was 36. ... Qa6 played ...

...Ne8 is bad too...has no purpose whatsoever frankly - can't imagine why you think it is 'better'. The position is just bad for Black and there are no good moves. So, the short answer is 'it doesn't matter'. But 'why'? I presume it is something as simple as...the engine seeing nothing preventing th...

Re: Which version of Komodo is the strongest, at long time control ?

Conceptually I can't wrap my brain around that being so at both blitz and long time controls. Because no programmer had ever cared about alternative moves in chess positions...etc,etc,etc Well, consider me happy that so many do not know any better than to use Stockfish in Multi-PV for analysis :)

Re: Which version of Komodo is the strongest, at long time control ?

At long time control which version of Komodo is the strongest ? We can NOT judge based on just a few games played on the TCEC Website, but there is a strong indication that the MTCS is NOT stronger ? https://tcec-chess.com As far as we know, regular Komodo is stronger than Komodo MCTS at an...

Re: Komodo vs. Larry K on chess.com

Sf changed its scale rather noticeably in the past year or so. What used to be a +.20 might now get close to a .30. Could you post examples of this? I have just perceived the opposite trend over the years (the scale has been approaching 0.00 consistently... some positions that used to be 0.60 are 0...

Re: Komodo vs. Larry K on chess.com

Seriously Larry - you think 1/10th of a pawn (.2) is "Very meaningful" compared to .1 in Stockfish? Being so close to 'zero' (and perhaps given their large contempt for play purposes) one might think it closer to negligible than very meaningful. And are you speaking of pure evaluation or chances in ...

Re: Komodo vs. Larry K on chess.com

They are rare, and most are with openings that benefit black, such as king's gambit, I'm talking about engines with similar elo I looked at the TCEC archive and among Komodo, Houdini, Leela, SF, there are Black wins and out of tame openings that they evaluate as even. Of course if the opening eval ...

Re: Armageddon Openings released

I agree with you that the time limit can be a bit faster now due to all the prep. I also agree that chess 960 is not an ideal solution to the prep problem, but I think that it is better than ignoring the problem. Basically we are just watching computers play each other for the first 15 to 20 moves ...
