Re: What a fun in those times!

It's actually why those game still have 'life to them'. Off the top of my head I can't think of a single 'engine' vs 'engine' game... the I suggest for next TCEC 10 final to match Komodo with Skipper_2017 as a wild card. there will be some extreme attacks and tremendous positional crushes from Komo...

Re: What a fun in those times!

On the human side, as far as Nakamura is concerned, it may be that *he* needed to restrain his flashy impulses to maintain a near 2800 rating. But is the same true of Kasparov, Topalov and Shirov back in their prime? Shirov played his usual brand of 'fire on the board' chess, while being one of the...

Re: What a fun in those times!

I do not find games matching engines couple of hundreds elo apart interesting at all: it is like a soccer game between Barcelona and a local town club, the mant goals from the stronger side do not make the game more interesting.. Interestingly, many people will say that it is precisely the differen...

Re: NAKAMURA: Fischer would almost certainly lose to us

What Naka's comment infers (unintentionally I'm sure) is that todays top players could (perhaps only) beat Fischer due to how the game has changed and computers. What this leads to is the thought that if Naka and others could go back in time WITHOUT the benefit of the added 'knowledge' and computers...

Re: What a fun in those times!

I am no programmer, but... I think sometimes what people have seen as 'style' is little more than how an engine operated with a zone of uncertainty. That is to say that at one time evaluation functions bumped up against the horizon effect with uncertain results...with the hardware being so powerful ...

Re: Help and Tips for Engine matches or Tournaments?

Essentially what I am trying to do is this: http://www.fastgm.de/fixed-depth.html But for different engines...and doing so in a tournament format would be nice as well. But again, any general or specific recommendations appreciated. Why? Just wondering about the relationship between 'knowledge' an e...

Help and Tips for Engine matches or Tournaments?

I am TOTALLY NEW to this so any help would be appreciated! I am interested in running some matches or tournaments. I am having a hard time finding some good guidelines. I am using Fritz interface and would like to use that, not any other...but could perhaps be persuaded. Currently I am 'trying' to t...

Re: Komodo 10.3 released.

"Komodo 10.3 on two threads is probably stronger than Komodo 8 on eight threads. In other words, to get the same improvement by upgrading your hardware you might have to spend 30 or 40 times as much money." For analysis (not game play) would not letting the older engine run longer then be just as g...

Re: Komodo 10.3 released.

" Most of the gains this time are due to improved search" I have to say, this always puzzles me. Every iteration (of every engine) 'improves' search or something else. How...can one continue to 'improve' things like search? It's probably too complicated for a simple answer...but could you 'dumb it ...

Re: Any eta for the next version of Komodo?

I'll bet you a great big donut that we will not see Komodo 11 until TCEC 10. No incentive to.
