Re: Intel Core i7-7700K Kaby Lake CPU Fritz Benchmarks Leake

Comments like "All Intel seems to do is lower power consumption...etc" Hey, lets be honest here - that's been 'the future', smaller and less power...not more ghz. For most all general purpose, 'more' Ghz is overrated. Intel has simply been doing the smart thing. If power consumption is all that Int...

Re: Best for chess: i7 5820K or i7 6700k ?

My time is worth $$

You forget some other items in your calculations, gets a lot closer to $740 when you so that. :-)

If there were one from a reputable dealer with roughly the same specs, I'd get it...don't see them though. The Costco spec are actually not bad and their returns are easy peasy.

Re: Best for chess: i7 5820K or i7 6700k ?

In the end, this may be what I 'settle' for...pocket the $250 I might have spent in keeping with my Under $1k thoughts. http://www.costco.com/HP-ENVY-750c-Desktop---Intel-Core-i7---4GB-Graphics.product.100312027.html Can't get an i7-6700 for much less even with no graphics card (would not save but $...

Re: Best for chess: i7 5820K or i7 6700k ?

A modern engine running on one Sandy Bridge core needs 1 second / game to spot errors and find improvements to your OTB play. If you're a GM use 20 seconds / game. Depth seconds/game seconds per move 1 0.5 0.006 2 0.6 0.007 3 0.6 0.007 4 0.6 0.008 5 0.9 0.011 6 1.1 0.014 7 1.5 0.019 8 2.2 0.027 9 2...

Re: Best for chess: i7 5820K or i7 6700k ?

Not so much 'novelties'...rather my repertoire is rather offbeat, but some do transpose into main lines. I was 2399 ICCF when I quit...people were clearly starting to use engines while I wasn't. But I do fancy getting back into that...and to be on more equal footing! I'm thinking most common AMD CP...

Re: Best for chess: i7 5820K or i7 6700k ?

No thanks. It's also old...just want to use it for non-intensive stuff these days. Freezes up too much when I try to do too much on it....that is, have an engine running and do other things. Your machine can do about 150,000,000,000 floating point operations per second. The i7-6700k can do 50 billi...

Re: Best for chess: i7 5820K or i7 6700k ?

What I am thinking is that since 'real time' analysis or gameplay is not the important thing - I'm wanting an engine to analyse opening systems I play and maybe go thru my games to look for errors...say over night or over a couple of days IMHO : To analyse opening systems you play: you mean you're ...

Re: Best for chess: i7 5820K or i7 6700k ?

Thanks for input, Brian. The program CHESS POSITION TRAINER will let you customize an analysis of your full opening repertoire. I also have Chessbase...but it's not as versatile at such things as CPT. http://www.chesspositiontrainer.com/index.php/en/features The engine anaylsis in it can be customiz...
